Re: January 15-17, 2022 Winter Storm Discussion
7:08pm update from the boys:
.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM MONDAY MORNING/...
00Z ILN sounding shows a warm nose of 1.5C at 2900 ft AGL. This
is much warmer than any numerical guidance was showing,
including most recent HRRR and RAP runs. Thus precipitation type
has been a wintry mix with many areas reporting extended periods
of sleet and/or freezing rain.
Still believe that guidance trends are correct in that lower
levels will be cooling soon resulting in a change over to snow.
Already starting to see that in northeast Kentucky and south
central Ohio. So forecast update blended observed conditions
into previous forecast over the next few hours. However, that is
going to result in a decrease in snow amounts with an inclusion
of some ice.

Les just went under WWA in Mason…..saw that coming earlier today. Calling for 1-3 inches now. Looks like we had a shift west

Looks like it did actually go a little more west than thought. Wonderful for all who are in that area.

29 / 26 here with light snow as of 8pm. Same at CVG. Probably have a nice 1/2" or so down and should get an inch or so here before all is said and done. Nice!

Fantastic TROWAL signature with this system and a wonderful deformation zone with mid level f-gen forcing. A classic OV snow storm, just set up a bit further east then we would have liked it. Almost had ourselves a monster! A better outcome then the last thread we started at least so that's something.

Finally got back to the weather as I watched a wild game as the Cowboys are once again done early in the playoffs. Over an inch as every flake is sticking and that always helps in mid-January. Still such a sharp cutoff from snow to no snow and very close to the Indiana/Ohio and Kentucky/Indiana borders which is usually the furthest west precip makes it in these kind of storms.

Getting added to the advisory exceeded my expectations with this event loltpweather wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 8:17 pm Finally got back to the weather as I watched a wild game as the Cowboys are once again done early in the playoffs. Got a cool video if the new truck headlights I installed this week. Snow is really coming down!
Re: January 15-17, 2022 Winter Storm Discussion
Les this was a wild storm to figure out and so many variables and just shows you mother nature always wins no matter how hard we work to get a decent forecast. Good thing is over the next 2 weeks more winter weather on the way and by next weekend could see another big storm somewhre east of the Mississippi.

Yes Sir, Tim! I see two more potential southern systems. Both want to push well east of the area but we're close enough like with this system, that we could get clipped. I see clipper and cold wx in between these two southern systems. !st one is due in next weekend and another towards the end of the month, beg of Feb. Pattern looks great into Feb at this time.tpweather wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 8:21 pm Les this was a wild storm to figure out and so many variables and just shows you mother nature always wins no matter how hard we work to get a decent forecast.
