Heavy rain may be our biggest threat tonight. Training setting up to the west of town. Severe threat in Cincy is low. Better chance south of the river.
Re: March 2024 Weather Discussion
.6 inches for the day. Incredible light show, some nice gusts and marble sized hail for a bit. Not nearly the damage as they had up north!

Saw this on another weatherboard: Winchester Indiana has 22 people missing...109 people from Winchester county hospitalized and four people confirmed dead. Nursing home, elementary school, hospital, and so many homes and businesses were hit throughout Winchester and Selma. Please pray for the families.
Daylight will bring some startling pictures!

Re: March 2024 Weather Discussion
A cooler day today with wrap around showers possible, temp staying in the 50s. Then we get back into the 60s tomorrow with some sunshine. Sunday is cool again, low 50s with the 30s on Mon with a rain / snow shower possible, esp. North. 40s to maybe 50 Tues then we're back into the 50s and 60s after that. After Monday, a good chunk of next week is dry and seasonal.

Re: March 2024 Weather Discussion
Long range wise... we are losing the cold signal and gaining a heavy rain / t-storm signal for the rest of March. We need to watch the 26-28th period and end of month / Easter. March may go out like a lion since it came in like a lamb this year.

Good Morning Les and 0.66 here so happy with that but sad about the loss of life yesterday. Locally we missed much of the severe weather but it was very close by and sure the NWS was so busy last night. I have no ideal if these were F1,2,or 3 and sure we will get information on that later today.

Re: March 2024 Weather Discussion
Lots of damage reports for sure and it'll be interesting to see the final tornado count and how long some of them were on the ground. This spring looks active so these last couple of events, are only the beginning.tpweather wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 6:38 amGood Morning Les and 0.66 here so happy with that but sad about the loss of life yesterday. Looks very active and hopefully this leads to a good deal of rain without the severe weathertron777 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 6:46 amLots of damage reports for sure and it'll be interesting to see the final tornado count and how long some of them were on the ground. Re: March 2024 Weather Discussion
Impressive start to severe season , especially the OV. In hindsight of course, but with the impressive parameters yesterday, I wonder why the SPC didn’t have an enhanced area for our region? At least I didn’t see one, unless they added it very late to the game

Re: March 2024 Weather Discussion
Bgoney it was interesting and to me Tuesday and Wednesday the wind energy was not showing a big event but I believe that was wrong and it happens with models. Still I thought there was enough data to support a little more concern but again sometimes Mother Nature will do what she does and of course she is so much smarter than the models lol

Storm Reports from the SPC:
https://www.spc.noaa.gov/climo/reports/today.html
Just the slight risk was all I saw. Enhanced was down in AR and OK. I did play the event too conservatively. The HRRR actually did a great job.

Re: March 2024 Weather Discussion
Wonder where Ohio will stand on the tornado count for 2024 YTD after the surveys are done? I know I saw a list somewhere that had us in the top 5. Definitely an active start to the season!

I only saw the slight risk as well. Goes to show you our outbreaks can be quite unpredictable. I have seen moderate risk days a lot calmer than yesterday was,tron777 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 7:22 am Storm Reports from the SPC:

Re: March 2024 Weather Discussion
Absolutely Tim. But I do think by their normal early afternoon update yesterday it was evident that there was a pretty good bullseye in Indiana/Ohio with the late afternoon/evening activitytpweather wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 7:13 amBgoney it was interesting and to me Tuesday and Wednesday the wind energy was not showing a big event but I believe that was wrong and it happens with models. Re: March 2024 Weather Discussion
I agree Mike. It seems that the marginal / slight risk days over perform and the Moderate / High risk days don't.cloudy72 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 8:02 amI only saw the slight risk as well. Re: March 2024 Weather Discussion
100p/c agree and really by the afternoon update like you mentioned the models were on top of it and also how severe it may become. I thought the leftovers from the morning and enough energy from the southern system involved was a recipe for a rather large outbreak. Once I saw that cell earlier in the day that went through parts of southeast Indiana and northern Kentucky this told me the atmosphere is primed and primed for tornado's.Bgoney wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 8:04 amAbsolutely Tim. Re: March 2024 Weather Discussion
I echo the being surprised part. That loan supercell was a good lesson for me. I figured it would be a good outbreak too after that cell plus the fact that we had ample sunshine for the atmosphere to recover after the first round moved thru.tpweather wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 8:31 am100p/c agree and really by the afternoon update like you mentioned the models were on top of it and also how severe it may become.
