GFS temp anomalies for the rest of the month show below normal with only brief close to normal warm-ups. Dud severe season continues for midwest, Plains and OV. Plenty of snow for many in NAmerica the rest of the month

Global Warming update, record cold across the northern Hemisphere continues.
Alaska's April Cold , record breaking
The cold of early April 2021 will go down as historic with several Alaskan cities breaking long standing April cold records. The Alaska April record low of -50F has been challenged during this cold spell with wind chills of -74F being reported at Howard Pass.
The lowest wind chill of the past decade in Anchorage is -26F, typically the windiest winter days in Anchorage are often the warmest. On April 7, Anchorage reported a wind chill of -25F, surpassing the previous April record of -15 set in 1985.
On April 8, a snow depth of 24 inches was recorded in Anchorage. The deepest for this late in the season.
On April 8, Atigun Pass hit their lowest reading of the entire season with a low of -42F.
On April 9, Bettles recorded a low of -38F which surpasses it’s previous April record of -37F set in 1986.

On April 10, Fairbanks hit a low of -29F which marks the coldest April reading here since 1944 when a low of -32F was recorded.
On the same morning Fairbanks recorded -29, there was widespread -40s reported within the traditional interior cold spots.
20210415_190805.jpg
An unofficial low of -48F was recorded at a USGS river gage on the Maclaren River at Denali Highway Bridge in the upper Susitna Valley.
Later on the day of April 10, after falling to -29F, Fairbanks smashed a record low maximum of 3F (37F below average), surpassing the previous record of 11F. This is also the city’s daytime max in single digits. The city is within a record streak of over 180-days since it last hit 40F, the previous record below 40 is 176 days set back in the fall and winter of 1965-66.
the current cold spell is Alaska’s most anomalous since May 2013, prior to that September 1995 and before this September 1992.

Playing catch up here! Loving those pics, Les!!! Glad you've been able to get out on the water and catch!
Tim, glad your procedure went well and you are on the mend!
And say it isn't so, one of the GFS runs had potential for a hard freeze next Weds?!!!! Noooooo! Hoping that has changed.
Current temp 49.6 after morning low of 34.5. Saw some frost on rooftops and parts of lawn. I don't mind the cooler temps but please, no sub freezing. Japanese maple is leafing out now!! May have to set up what hubby calls our shanty town canopy tent again!!! Make it warm enough to sleep out there!

My Brother fishes tournaments. Look up the Masters Walleye Circuit (MWC) I pre-fish with him and his team for the tournaments and have a ball! :D They got 11th place at Port Clinton and cashed another check this go around.
I've thought about doing charters someday. Need money and to fully commit to that as a full time job lol

I am back folks! Cut more spinach this afternoon and also cut the grass. Been hearing talk of cold and snow next week to our north and maybe some flakes for us? Is this nonsense true? I have not looked at a model on a week. Will have to look around a bit later and post a little bit.

Wow... the pattern sucks lol NW flow and cold front after cold front. No sustained warmth and even some snow flakes possible Tues night / Wed morning of next week. Welcome back, Les indeed!

Good Morning and Les hope you have got your fix with the models lol. Down here in SC and beautiful spring weather but seeing snow in the forecast at home is not something I like to see this time of year. Looks like a nice dose of precip coming in later Tuesday and most of it post frontal so the chances to see some snow is likely. The ground is very warm so getting any accumulation on streets will not happen but getting a brief heavier burst and yes could see a little on the grassy areas. Even a bigger issue is the cold with a chance of another freeze Thursday morning plus during the day Wednesday wind chills can be in the 20's. Good thing is a nice rebound and temps getting into the 70's next week but my guess severe weather which has been delayed could really ramp up.

Good morning Tim! Overnight models are showing a dusting possible to perhaps as much as 3". This is for CVG. I wouldn't rule out a dusting actually. Accumulating snow on the tune of an inch plus will be close by… probably just off to our north and west. Track of the low is key of course but the darkness of night will be in our favor with this system.

Models are doing terrible with current conditions and snowing like crazy in Des Moines ,Iowa and models show nothing. What I see so far with this system is the low will be a little further north and west which makes sense this time of year and I could see between Indy and Toledo a 1-2 inch snowfall and maybe slightly higher towards Toledo but locally maybe a dusting which is still quite a bit for this time of year.
