Not overly optimistic about severe chances today. Clearing line is way back in Illinois. Between that and the persistent rains, I don’t see much of a chance for rebounding. While higher than yesterday, dew points are still marginal at best (right around 60).

Main clearing area is noted by the yellow wedge. Area circled in orange does feature some breaks in the clouds. But as I said, much more is going against a severe threat today than for one. And the threat was marginal to begin with. Aka very low chance of isolated severe locally if at all.

Good morning, Bgoney! :)

Severe wx chances will probably start picking up more for the OV the last week of April, if not, by early May.

Global warming update. Quick , fire up those coal plants!!!!

Slovenia suffers Coldest April Temp in History, Belgrade breaks All-Time Snow Record, European Winemakers bust-out the “Frost Fires,” and an Antarctic Blast threatens Early-Season Snow in SE Australia

Fruit growers and winemakers in France have reported that the majority of their harvest this year has been lost to the significant cold snap that spread through parts of Europe from Wednesday, April 7 to Friday, April 9, 2021. Many industry experts believe that the frost damage might be the worst since the 1990s.

French farmers started counting the cost on Friday, April 9, after a deep cyclonic vortex from North Atlantic went down on northern Europe. Frosty conditions covered much of France, where many areas recorded their lowest April temperature on record.

"No region has been spared-- beets, rape, barley, vines fruit trees [have been lost]. All the different kinds of support must be activated urgently," said the National Federation of Unions for Farmers (FNSEA). "Exceptional situations call for exceptional measures."

Farmers across the country had attempted to save their harvest by lighting fires and candles amid the frost. However, extreme cold conditions still ravaged about 90 percent of this year's harvest, local winemakers and fruit growers reported to the FNSEA.

"The winegrowers are devastated, downcast," said Philippe Pellaton, president of the Inter-Rhone Association of winegrowers, adding that this year should see the smallest harvest of the Côtes du Rhône in the past 40 years.

Good Morning and Les hope you are having a great time. Had the procedure last Thursday to remove a golf ball size cyst on the back of my head. Doing better each day and will get the stitches out of my head on Thursday and then heading to SC.

Back to the weather and the second half of April looks much cooler than I expected. This is good news as these troughs have help give rainfall to many folks in the south which is great before the heat turns on next month. Snows in the northern plains is also very good as they have been very dry this winter and getting some spring snows help though not every area got hit but will take everything we can get. The long term model CFSv2 has so many problems and the main problem is when it throws out its longest forecast the current weather is imputed way to much and that model will almost always get it wrong. My dart board does a much better job. Will get back on Friday and at least the weather does not look to hot down there for the next 2 weeks so will be coming back in early May

Hi Tim,

Great to hear that your cyst was successfully removed. :) Did the doc mark it with some dimples for the 'fun' of it? ;)

Currently 55 here in my Greenville.
