Hey there Joe! I think the more steady / moderate rainfall will be moving in late today into this evening. If I had to guess, it would be in that 5-7pm window.winterstormjoe wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 11:21 am What time is the rain to arrive later today? Thanks!

I agree Les and at first some dry air to overcome but should be in that 5-7 when we start to see the light rain at first and the further southwest you live the quicker it gets to your area. Could be a nice rainy overnight period and still going .5-1.0 but leaning towards the higher amounttron777 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 12:01 pmHey there Joe! Between this rain and temps to 50 today and possibly near 60 tomorrow that should do it with the snow that was in the shaded areas from the sun except for the piles at the end of the driveways and parking lots. Things will also be a little cleaner out there! Now, we'll have a clean slate for the next snow fall hopefully in the near future!tpweather wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 12:20 pmI agree Les and at first some dry air to overcome but should be in that 5-7 when we start to see the light rain at first and the further southwest you live the quicker it gets to your area. Re: January 2025 Wx Discussion
I'll be glad once the ice is gone off my driveway that is for sure.
I love snow but hate the ice associated with it.

Re: January 2025 Wx Discussion
I have some shady areas out back which are very icy and was finally able to get a ruler in the ice and still 4 inches in one area. Snow rather easy to melt with the sun but ice this time of year and the amount we had needs some really mild air and of course rainfall.

No doubt Tim. 40s or 50 degrees and rain will take care of it.tpweather wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 12:48 pmI have some shady areas out back which are very icy and was finally able to get a ruler in the ice and still 4 inches in one area. Re: January 2025 Wx Discussion
I saw a few showers on the way home but nothing major. The steadier rain is moving into LOU now so the call for the timing is looking good that we stated earlier. We'll see how we do. Still like the 0.50 to 1" call for the region with your heavier amounts south of us in LOU's forecast area. Some 2" plus amounts down there seem likely. I suppose a few of you will see 1.5" like totals which can happen if we do see t-storms getting involved but we are splitting hairs.
Most don't care if a rainfall call is blown too badly. You don't notice as much like you do with snow.

Re: January 2025 Wx Discussion
Just watching the radar and near term models there will be a sharp cutoff between having less than a 1/4 of rain and over 1 inch. That cutoff looks to be just to the northwest of us. The rain shield only going so far north before it shifts east and how far north does it go before it stops. Still believe .5-.1 seems good locally but just to the northwest there is going to be that sharp cutoff. Folks south and southeast should have no problem being in that 1-2 inch range and some higher.

.28” at CVG. Another struggle from models with amounts and northward push of moisture into our region. We’ve seen this happen for 3 + weeks of overdoing this into the OV
Only reached 48 at CVG yesterday, so 30 straight days of below 50 degrees!!!!!!

Good Morning and yes the northward push only made it so far. The Euro the other day had this push of heavier rain to northern Indiana and by far the worse model on this system. Was watching last night and knew we were close to the cutoff but it was about 30 miles further southeast than I expected even last night. Bgoney it has been a month where models are just not getting the northward push of moisture plus are pushing warmer air to far north with most of the systems. Why and earlier in the month I understood with some decent blocking but at the moment really no major blocking and to your point all season has been the lack of the strong southeast ridge which could be part of the reason

Tim, hope you’re 100% over the bug. For me , yes , I think the SEridge is the reason for a lack of qpf into AV country. It’s been either to weak and or to progressive( or both )moving to far into the Atlantic , giving the result of return moisture into the Tennessee valley and slightly north , before flattening out and pulling eastward due to the reasons above

Re: January 2025 Wx Discussion
Good Morning Bgoney and yes over the bug. Tell you the truth I am ready for a nice little break from the cold weather and just to get outside and take walks without being so bundled up. Most of my life the cold really never bothered me and being a teenager in the late 70's with the cold we had during some of those winters all I had to wear was a tee-shirt and jean jacket and not once did it feel cold. Of course heading into my mid 60's I am really starting to feel the cold quite often. Not a fan lol.

Re: January 2025 Wx Discussion
Good morning all! 0.33" as of 8am for the CVG event total. I was too high with my call even, wow! 0.43" for the Boone co mesonet site. Those 2-3" amounts are even south of LOU and I-64. Models did a terrible job, every single one of them. Anyone, it's enough to wash some of the salt off the cars and roads. But more rain is needed for a more thorough rinse job. The upcoming pattern for Week 1 of Feb should take care of it.

Not bad.... the 7th snowiest and 15th coldest on record. We'll take it! I guess you ended up having to replace your hot water heater too? Those are never fun.
