January 5-6th, 2025 The Double Digit Storm
Re: January 5-6th, 2025 First Legit Winter Storm of the Season
Still snowing quite impressively in Norwood. Unfortunately the wind/blowing snow has made it impossible for me to measure at this point. Guessing 10” but might be totally off with that.

We did 3 weeks in a row last time I checked the data sometime in the 1960s. January of 2025 could make a run at it.tpweather wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 12:59 pmLes hard to get a long stretch of 32 or below temps around here just because normally snow pack is not that deep and as we know a storm can come through and add just enough warm air to get above freezing. I do agree that this could be one of the longest streaks in Cvg history.tron777 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 12:51 pm Wow.... 12Z Euro has CVG getting to 32 on Sunday if we are lucky. If we see a pack refresher on Friday then we won't. Euro puts us back in the deep freeze next week lol Wow... what a pattern! This snow isn't going anywhere anytime soon what we have on the ground guys.

Winds have picked up here and the snow will blow and drift, but so far everything has been 25 mph or under which is good.

Snow should be just down to a few flurries NW of I-71 as the deform band slowly begins to pull away from the area. A few more hours out East otherwise for the rest of us, it'll be winding down.
Re: January 5-6th, 2025 First Legit Winter Storm of the Season
I know we made a few runs in the winters of 76-77 and 77-78 but they usually got beaten down with a storm that would bring up some mild air. Those both were weak El Nino's and had tons of moisture. Buffalo did great off the lakes that year because we had such a southwest flow across the countrytron777 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 1:16 pmWe did 3 weeks in a row last time I checked the data sometime in the 1960s. you might think that, but it's still going strong over here! Another inch give me 12-1/2" total.

Give me a storm in January that last over 24 hours and usually a happy camper. So different than last year and I call the at winter of sun. I had never seen a season like that with so much sun locally. We love in a valley and clouds have a hard time moving out until around March.

Giving credit to the Weather Channel as they had some of the biggest totals near the Ohio River. Only follow them during Hurricanes and big winter storms but yes they still have some top met's even with their lean toward the climate nuts
Btw I am going with 10 inches here unless the snow police are out but hopefully that is not the case

Hubs closed the office, I got away to help clear cars and driveway and marvel at the snow.
It's gorgeous fluffy stuff - this snow weenie is happy as a clam!

For Friday’s potential storm, is it looking like a Thursday into Friday or Friday into Saturday kind of thing? Thanks!

TWC was still too high with 12-18" Same as BamWx I do think 12-15" would have been common without the sleet and brief dry slotting though.tpweather wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 1:39 pm Giving credit to the Weather Channel as they had some of the biggest totals near the Ohio River. Much better than a local station that had 3-6 until they finally moved it up and went 5-9. That is what happens by using only one model and they no better than that imotron777 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 1:50 pmTWC was still too high with 12-18" Same as BamWx I do think 12-15" would have been common without the sleet and brief dry slotting though.tpweather wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 1:39 pm Giving credit to the Weather Channel as they had some of the biggest totals near the Ohio River. I echo that, Mollie! Glad I have the plow this season since I don't have the nice little helpers that you do.

Absolutely agree, Tim! AV, ILN, and the other two local stations in town did a great job!tpweather wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 1:52 pmMuch better than a local station that had 3-6 until they finally moved it up and went 5-9. What happen to the days where kids would come around and shovel your driveway. We did that as a kid and getting a dollar for a driveway was wonderful
