Hey Eric and great post about the tornado's. Overnight several water spouts in the ocean and they were quite strong. This tells me we have big time rotation with these cells and these no doubt will be an issue today and early Thursday for the southern half of Florida. Another issue is flooding and yes we know widespread flooding is likely with the surge but also the ground is wet and you can see central Florida already getting pounded with rain this morning and that will continue all day.

Getting closer to the shear , so we’ll see how much that can weaken Milty. Course the weakening expands the wind field , so , what are you going to do

Some changes this hour. Milt wobbled a bit north and is right on track now , but notice NHC has shifted landfall a bit more south of Tampa at the end of loop

Weakening eye wall with the dry air infiltration. Pretty much following the script now . Staying just south of TB

Bgoney you are correct and the storm surge is hitting southwest Florida first and working its way northward towards Tampa Bay. No doubt it should weaken enough to be a Cat 3 which is still a strong storm. The storm is picking up speed and that is another good item to look at with this storm. Storm surges comes in all shapes and forms and one is if you have a stalled storm you can have that surge for a day or two and that is terrible. Then you have Milton who is moving in fast and yes a big storm surge but its in and out quickly. Still going to be damage and we know loss of life is likely but the folks have had plenty of time to prepare. Probably some of the biggest issues will be some of the outer island especially south of Tampa and those can really change the entire island with a storm surge like this

The only thing that probably isn’t going as forecast is the landfall. Looks to me to be sooner than forecast

Definitely moving more east as the eye enlarges. Possibly more weakening to go

Yep, I'd say a couple more hours or so. Sarasota maybe the target area for landfall.

I think it barely hangs on to cat 3 status at landfall

Over 20 tornadoes so far have been reported per the SPC. Some of those could be duplicates, Also heard earlier that a tornado hit the sheriff's dept in Port St. Lucie.

Latest dropsonde reported 952 MB for the pressure so I agree borderline 2 / 3 at landfall. Not like it will really make much difference.

KTBW Radar loop (Tampa) - Looks like the eye may go S of Sarasota now, more towards Venice, Englewood N Ft Myers region.
