Agreed! The dry slot is knocking on your doorstep now. Stay safe my friend! Winds have been strong here and we've been in the rain all day too.

Recall that CVG broke a daily rainfall record the other day. For today 9/27, the record at CVG is 2.55" from 2002. We should fall well short of that, but we've made a decent run at it!

Now I know what a tropical storm is like. It's very rare to see this kind of wind for this long of a period of time. It's rockin in the Dayton area. Rainfall is adding up quickly as well. At 1.6 inches and climbing quickly.

The upper low is over TN so the two are slowly coming together as the merging process begins. This will cause the system to stall out for the weekend and finally, move off to the East next week. Watching the radar closely and you can see the dry slot over Central and Eastern KY. Not sure if it will make it into NKY or if it'll keep filling in. We'll have to wait and see on that.
Ma Nature going from extreme dryness to steroidal overdrive. We all need rain, but unfortunately, not all at once re extensive flooding in a lot of areas.
I'm good with all the rain. It's the wind that has been troublesome.
I know Bro. Re extensive flooding I meant areas down South. Very thankful for the liquid gold, too. :) I've never been able to find my rain gauge since a year ago when my folks and I moved so of course don't know how much has fallen here in Greenville e.g.

For the prayer warriors here please say a prayer for my sister Retha as she'll be heading back home to Mt. Airy, NC tomorrow morning. Pray e.g. that she won't come upon any major detours re any Helene debris ? on her route. Or high water in spots. Its been a fun fellowship visit with her but pray for her emotional state also as she's been going through a lot at home re her mil who has Alzheimer's and some other in law family members.

Good Morning and what a storm and of course we have the low pressure to deal with this weekend that will bring at least .5-1.0 for most folks locally but my guess some totals higher. This was a widespread storm and though the drought not broken this will go along way in helping get back to normal. Had 2.77 yesterday and of course raining again this morning and this should be one of those days with light rain most of the day though once in awhile a moderate period of rain will fall. Good thing the winds have died down and probably be in that 10-15 mph at times so not a big problem.

Been going to the Asheville/west North Carolina area for years, and to see the complete devastation of nearly all the little towns and parks and popular sightseeing areas that we’ve visited is just unbelievable. That whole massive area is a disaster and changed forever . Saw where they issued a statement saying “every road should be considered impassable in and around the Asheville/ west NC until proper engineering inspections

Winners and losers with this storm. When this storm went further east this no doubt changes where some of the heavier rains would fall. Southeast Ohio did well and so well they have flood warnings in certain counties which is not good. The local area around us did well and most folks got over 2 inches so far with some amounts over 3. Southeast Kentucky on the other hand got small amounts of rain because they system was further north and the down sloping plus dry air worked in there yesterday afternoon. Hard to believe I am saying this but we need a few days of dry weather. That should happen next week and then we will begin another busy period and hopefully just your normal amount of rain would be nice. Unlike in the summer when the sun comes back out the ground drys rather quickly. Since we are heading into October that is not the case so much of this rain has soaked in and you will not see the quick dryness as you would in the summer. Hopefully many of the lakes, creeks and ponds were able to retain some of this rain and that will take more rain to get them back to normal but you must start somewhere.

Good morning all! Rain, rain, and more rain is the name of the game today. It'll be light to at times moderate in intensity. The wind will be better only gusting 20-25 mph. The low is currently stalled over West KY at 998 MB. As Tim mentioned 1/2 to 1" of additional rain is a good call and I agree with it. We will see the showers taper off again this evening and become more scattered tomorrow and Monday.

Current totals for the event:

CVG - 2.56"
Me - 2.55"
Boone co Mesonet - 2.54"

I saw that. That’s happening at dozens of areas along major highways. Just think of the secondary road’s washed out , in the hundreds and more likely in the thousands of instances. Then there’s peoples driveways , are you kidding me? In the mountains? In the thousands… this is a major infrastructure redo at all levels, individual to the commerce

No doubt. I-26 is gone too in that area. Like you said, the backroads are probably washed out too. I've heard that all roads in Western NC are closed pretty much at this point. It'll be months before some folks are back to normal and with winter on the way (esp in the Mountains) this couldn't have happened at a worse time.
