If I recall, that might be I-40. I heard it was closed in NC due to a rock slide.

That is Interstate 40 at Tennessee/North Carolina border.
Exactly and its a beautiful view there as I love the creek and I know they have canoe rentals on one of the exits. Not surprising about the road and my guess many more that we have not heard about so far

Glad to see the qpf adding up for the northern areas of the tristate. That was my only worry as far as the forecast. Winds have easily gusted here in the 50-60mph range

Tim , it’s a good thing you’re not in Greenville anymore. The pics out of there are nothing but floods in every direction

100 percent agree. That was my concern as well and I believe with the system being more east than forecast this no doubt helped folks in the northern areas. Saturday could be an all day rain as well of course lighter amounts but would not be surprised to see another 1 inch or so in some areas. Winds have died down over the past 5-10 minutes but no doubt 50-60 mph gusts and lucky we only had these for a short period of time. Its when you have hours of strong winds you start to get into trouble.

Bgoney you are correct and so happy not living there. We were down there 4 years and had so much rain every year and was a blessing because very few 100 degree days though the humidity was brutal

Over 2 inches and still getting hammered. Again folks like all storms some folks will get less and some more especially with tropical moisture and staying under a band for a few hours will ramp up quickly.

A tough ride home but I made it! Tree limbs down / leaves everywhere but luckily still have power. The wind ripped one of the shutters off the house too. Ugh... Luckily it's low so no ladder will be needed to fix it thank goodness. Still getting hammered with rain and wind here as I type this. 1.29" at CVG as of 4pm, with the Boone Co mesonet site checking with 1.64" About an inch and a half here. After that drive home, it's beer thirty!

1731 2 NNW Rocky Mount Nash NC 3598 7780 Update: Approximately 14 buildings damaged in the Wesleyan Blvd and Tiffany Blvd area with 15 injuries including 4 serious. (RAH)

When my folks and I resided in Roanoke Rapids, NC near the VA border, we were about a half hour from Rocky Mount. Had been to Rocky Mount a lot of times.

Prayers and thoughts with scores of people in general who have been impacted by Helene. :(

CVG gusted to 53 as of 3pm and 56 as of 4pm so the high wind warning IMO was justified at least down here.

The center of Helene is still a respectable 986 MB over South Central KY. The upper low is over TN so the two are slowly coming together as the merging process begins. This will cause the system to stall out for the weekend and finally, move off to the East next week. Watching the radar closely and you can see the dry slot over Central and Eastern KY. Not sure if it will make it into NKY or if it'll keep filling in. We'll have to wait and see on that.

Ma Nature going from extreme dryness to steroidal overdrive. We all need rain, but unfortunately, not all at once re extensive flooding in a lot of areas.

Latest thoughts from the boys for the rest of the night:

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM SATURDAY MORNING/...
The remnants of Helene continue to move through the region near
the start of the period, merging with the upper level low in the
area, with the surface center of the extratropical low moving
northwest into Kentucky. The ILN CWA remains on the
northern/northeastern side of the system, under a tight pressure
gradient. Strong winds will continue through the evening hours,
however, most gusts will remain comfortably in the advisory
range (46-57 MPH) with only a few gusts reaching warning
criteria (58 MPH+). Despite this, given the numerous reports of
trees down, power outages, and traffic issues, have opted to
maintain the High Wind Warning for at least several more hours,
especially given the dry slot working its way into the
southeastern portion of the CWA, which may promote some higher
gusts. Gusts will diminish rapidly between 8 PM and midnight.
After this, winds will remain out of the northeast, but only
around 10 MPH.

Moderate to heavy widespread precipitation will taper off this
evening, becoming a bit more scattered in nature as the outer
bands of precip continue to spiral through. Overnight low
temperatures fall into the low 60s.

I'm good with all the rain. It's the wind that has been troublesome.

That wind is ripping again with another squall coming thru. What a storm! We go from drought to this. Sheesh! Even though the storm is far from being over (since it'll stall out and provide periods of showers all weekend), I think as a forum, we did a wonderful job predicting this system well in advance. The models overall I think did a very nice job too for a change! It's the winter time where their accuracy seems to always go downhill.
