93 now at CVG as of 5pm. 95+ should be a good bet Tues thru perhaps even Thursday as we'll have the "death ridge" right over us then.

Bgoney wrote: Mon Aug 26, 2024 4:46 pm Last week was the first time that we’ve seen D3 in Ohio since 2012, and now we’re about 12% to 12.5% of the state in D3. This is the most D3 coverage we’ve seen in the state since the inception of the U.S. Drought Monitor. Of course that will expand , but will we see some never before seen D4 in parts of Ohio in the days to come ? Probably a good bet at this point.
Hey Bgoney, do you know when the U.S.Drought Monitor went into effect. I know as a kid we had droughts and some just like this but was not sure when they first started the program
Per Google: As you can see, it hasn't been around that long.
The U.S. Drought Monitor began in 2000 and is a collaboration between the NDMC, NOAA and the USDA, who share the weekly author role for the product. The NDMC, based at University of Nebraska, Lincoln, leads the coordination of weekly drought monitor process and provides the maps, data and statistics to the public.

Met. Beau Dodson posted this on his FB page today. It's a soil moisture map. This tells the story very well.

Great Map Les and where there is more soil moisture out to the west where the corn is big time you can see why they have the higher dew points. Probably the only good thing about a dry summer is the dew points later in the summer stay below 70 for the most part unless we have a tropical system.

Good morning all! You know the drill. The 90s thru at least Friday. Small storm chance Wed / Thurs. Best chance Fri night into Sat with the cold front. The 80s and nice for Sunday with a gorgeous Labor Day on tap! Perhaps Tim is correct and we stay in the 70s for highs? :) That would be wonderful! A great day for my baby back rib cook on the smoker!

Good Morning Les and forecast looks wonderful. Finally I saw some action detected in the Atlantic in the 7 day forecast as they show an area of disturbed weather possible. How high do we go and still believe 95-97 the next few days but humidity will not be bad so not sure we reach heat advisory level but again its still going to be hot. Please and want to stress this strongly do not wear your winter coat today.

I hope this is the last of the heat for the season but notice I said hope. I'm not forecasting it yet. We can still see a few 90s in September. We are in a drought after all so it doesn't take much to push the mercury up. It'll be interesting to see how long the cooler pattern lasts once it begins on Labor Day.

Never say never Les in terms of 90 degrees in September though usually when that happens dew points are even lower into the 50's. At the moment there looks to be maybe 2 or 3 cool downs in September and that is a good sign. The tropics as always will play a part and can no doubt slow the pattern down. Will we see systems in the GOM or will much of the tropical activity stay closer to the east coast and at this moment from what I see the chances are greater along the east coast but again at the moment nothing even forming until maybe next week.

Tim.... the overnight Ensemble guidance shows the trough lifting out rather quickly. We will be below vg for temps Labor Day and Tues but then we warm right back up. The core of the heat still stays to our West / SW but it isn't exactly a cooler then normal pattern showing up either.

I agree Les and after a few days in the 70's we head back towards the low 80's next week which is near average. The heat looks to take a hold in the west which is normal in September and early October while we start to see cool fronts in the central and eastern USA. Again I believe any prolong heat is done after this week but still can get a few days the approach 90 but with less humidity. The tropics as always will either slow things down if they really ramp up or will be a non factor if these cool fronts are able to move rather far south and east for September. Always the balancing act and once we get through this week hopefully we will be able to see if the tropics come alive in a hurry. I agree the trough lifts out rather quickly next week but don't sell this cool shot and I believe models are starting to really see how nice of a cool shot this is for early September

For the time of year, the quietness of the Atlantic basin is really something! Does it ramp up as you would expect or not is going to be a big key for the Fall pattern. I still say that the tropics will begin to ramp up soon. I'm wrong with it being next week though. So hopefully the week after that.
