I just updated the contest thread. I got 89'ed. We have 30 knots of bulk shear and decent DCAPE values too for SE IN and NKY. Lapse rates look halfway decent for a change too. I like what I'm seeing.

Wow was it muggy this afternoon. Made it home just before the rain and hopefully a nice dose this evening. A little bit of thunder at the moment but nothing bad at all with a light to moderate rain at times.

July totals in for CVG and we ended up 1 degree above average for the month on temps and 20p/c above normal on rainfall. So much for the hot and dry forecasts by the models. August starting out wet and warm.

Good morning all and despite the look on radar, CVG only picked up 0.12" last evening. 0.21" at the Boone Co mesonet site. We have one more decent chance coming up for today before chances really drop off tomorrow. Then we dry out and turn warmer for Sunday on into next week. We do look to drop back into the 80s for the second half of next week but the forecast challenge remains due to the tropics and a cold front trying to push in as well.

An SPS has been issued this morning for patchy dense fog. I saw some of that IMBY.

...PATCHY DENSE FOG POSSIBLE FOR THE MORNING COMMUTE...

Patchy dense fog will continue to develop through sunrise across
the region. Visibilities may rapidly fluctuate from good to poor
in short distances. Motorists may experience visibilities of a
quarter mile or less at times.

Allow extra time to reach your destination this morning. Slow
down, allowing extra distance between you and the vehicle ahead of
you. Use low beam headlights.

I checked the overnight CAMs and they are all showing scattered coverage for this afternoon and evening... not very impressive at all. Local radar this morning shows another boundary pushing into the I-65 corridor and the best action is well to our SW with the northern part in a decaying trend like usual. We'll have to wait and see how much CAPE we get again today. The lack of wind shear has been a big thorn in our sides with regards to severe storms and widespread MCS activity.

Another weak showing out this way also , a trace after all that showing on radar. But still many in the region have made major improvements in the drought, just not Imby.

Agreed... MBY has improved significantly over the past week. Sure hope that we can get something to develop out your way with the next upper level system dropping in for today and Saturday. Our Eastern counties do have the best chance on Saturday for precip. Otherwise if today and tomorrow fail, most of next week is now trending drier as the tropical system looks to impact FL and potentially the East Coast. This would take the energy and moisture for our incoming cold front next week along with it unfortunately. So in other words, we will be waiting for a while for beneficial rains once again.

Good Morning and add another 0.31 yesterday evening so a very good week in my hood. Been a busy week in the weather department which will slow down by Saturday or Sunday. Next week the tropics get involved and this muddles up the forecast until we have a better handle of when and where a system may end up going.

Good morning Tim! Glad to see that you have cashed in nicely this week. We need to get Bgoney into the game now. The trends so far for next week aren't good for getting rain into the OV. Hope to see it change of course but for now, I am leaning drier.

Good Morning Les and I agree about the drier part. My main item is how hot we get and maybe stay next week. If the system becomes a hurricane and gets rather strong this can build up the ridging even more and though some of the models are showing low 80's late next week this may need to be raised but again the tropical system will have a say in that department. No doubt warm to hot Sunday-Tuesday and then is the front in the northern part of the country able to push through the Ohio Valley or will the tropical system decide to play hard ball and keep us in that 88-92 range a bit longer

I like we what we have already talked about. We max out in the lower 90s thru about Tues or Wed. Then the cold front comes thru (dry front) and we drop back into the mid 80s. Unless something changes with regards to the tropical system getting stronger then expected, this to me is a good call.

Next weeks pattern looks more like early September than early August. A decent cold front in the northern USA,tropical system in the southeast and plenty of heat as well.

Currently Tim.... I am seeing more in the way of cooler weather versus hot weather once we get past early next week. The extended range looks like we get back into NW flow with possible MCS's. This can change, however, should the tropics ramp up further or more then expected. It's too early to know that at this time.

I agree Les and just a wait and see approach. Not leaning either way at the moment and need to see if the tropical system becomes stronger. I am looking at the pattern next week more typical of early September with nice weather in the northern plains and upper midwest, tropical action in the southeast and rather stormy and warm to hot along the east coast. Since its only early August though I tend to lean warmer but just too early to say that with to much confidence.
