1st Winter Storm Threat of the Season: January 5-7, 2024
Re: 1st Winter Storm Threat of the Season: January 5-7, 2024
All snow in Vandalia. It took a little while to moisten the atmosphere. It's coming down at a good clip. A thin layer of white covering everything. By the looks of radar it should begin to pick up in intensity for a bit. I would expect to receive about an inch up here. We will see.

Unfortunately temps have been where I thought they’d be 32-36 throughout the morning, and looks like the inch or less forecast is going to work for the majority of the region

Snowing at a decent clip here, but the flakes are very fine. Therefore, accumulation is slow.

The back edge of the precip shield is approaching I-65 so this event will even be wrapping up a bit earlier then I expected. The primary low got into SE KY so a bit further north then progged. Just enough warm air to screw us over S of the River. I assume this should bode well for the I-70 Crew though.
Glad to see some of you get some action N of the river!

33 / 30 here - light rain. The next wave will be dropping into the area tonight into the day on Sunday. Should be all snow for I-70 Crew and a mix of rain / snow to the south. Light accum for I-70 folks is possible with no accum to the south.

Feel like the models didn't do a good job this week with precip types. The Mid-Atlantic looks like rain and freezing rain when they were expecting a good amount of snow.

Not enough cold air to work with and the dynamic cooling that was expected, didn't pan out. We needed a stronger low to pull more cold air down.mainevilleweather wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 8:58 am Feel like the models didn't do a good job this week with precip types. Snow started here about 8:30. Stopped for about 30 minutes and is now snowing again. Untreated is getting a light coating. Treated streets are just wet. I will all it a light steady snow with a hint of winter thrown in.
