Re: 17 Year Cicada Invasion 2021
I heard the other day on the news about some woman in Maryland, who to aid herself in an effort to overcome her fear of cicadas, takes already dead ones and makes earrings out of their veined wings.

That just sounds kind of freaky.MVWxObserver wrote: ↑Sun Jun 13, 2021 5:15 pm I heard the other day on the news about some woman in Maryland, who to aid herself in an effort to overcome her fear of cicadas, takes already dead ones and makes earrings out of their veined wings.

There must many people who do that because I've seen several different kinds of earrings. One person put them in this amber colored glass and the veins really stood out. BTW I passed on buying a pair!

Robins have been providing some good entertainment. I've seen them several times grab a cicada right out of the air and eat it. Pretty cool to see nature in action.

Heard my first annual cicada up in the tree yesterday, they get kind of noisy come August and early September before they die off as it get cooler. But they're much less than the 17 year ones, usually around 4 or 5 per tree and are a little bigger too.

I've heard a few too of the annual ones... as mentioned, not a huge deal though.
