Lawn & Garden Thread
Re: Lawn & Garden Thread
While we have very little winter, people are rich in moles this year! Even here at the woodpile. Must be hundreds. Everywhere we drive they are decimating yards. Wow.

Yeah... they are really active here too! Got to try and get rid of them before they have their babies.

Yep, They've been active all winter with no lengthy ground freezes. Trapped one back in January

Re: Lawn & Garden Thread
I like using those mole worms and have had success in spring. I've tried over the winter and no luck so in March or April depending on the pattern I'll put some more out. I did it last spring and never had any more activity until late fall. It sucks since no one around me does anything so like leaves, I get them coming into my yard from other people's.

Re: Lawn & Garden Thread
Lawn is coming alive! Waiting until as long as I can until the first mow. It's like when you were a young teenager shaving for the first time. Once you start, you can't stop! The spinach that I planted back in the fall is starting to grow again with the warmer days and rainfall we've had. Once these lows in the teens and low 20s nights appears to be done then I'll fertilize it, to really get it growing! I want those nice big leaves.
Soon, I'll drag the garlic chive pot out of the shed. First rain, just add water, then it'll begin growing. I'll wait a bit though. Been some chilly nights as of late. I see another cold shot coming towards months end. Will re-evaluate the pattern after that.
I've got my 2023 season all mapped out and ready to go. Just have to buy some stuff and wait for the cold to be done.
Tomatoes - Beef steak and grape, bush beans, asparagus beans, chives, spice rack, etc.

Started tomato, pepper lettuce peas from seed this week inside under gro lights. Have some plastic covering parts of the garden to help warm the ground quicker, it needs it. Did some planting of shrubs this week on Tuesday on the north side of a house and the damn ground was frozen about an inch and a half deep

Re: Lawn & Garden Thread
Hello fellow green thumbs. Been getting lettuce for about a week and will have a steady flow for probably months . Been planting seeds every couple weeks and have many at different growth stages, will be planting another batch this weekend. One batch of Peas are 8 inches high another just breaking ground. Carrots are up, cabbage has been in for about a week. Planted a dozen potatoes and they’re about 2 or3” inches out of the ground. Everything just waiting for some sunshine

Re: Lawn & Garden Thread
Sounds great Bgoney! I will harvest a bunch of spinach today and will grab whatever's left the following weekend before putting in the green beans seeds then. MDW will be the weekend the crops go in for my 2023 season. Beefsteak tomatoes, grape tomatoes, bush beans, asparagus beans, and the spice cabinet. My garlic chives are already growing. Drug the pot out of the shed last week, just add water and boom!

Re: Lawn & Garden Thread
I harvested the rest of my spinach for the season until Autumn when I'll re-sow seeds sometime in Rocktober. A total of 4 meals this year. Down from the 5 or 6 I had last year. I sowed 50 bush bean seeds and 50 wax bean seeds today where the spinach was growing to get my growing season started! Will need to drag some pots out and sow more seeds and drag my cages out for the pole beans, spice cabinet and such in the days to come. Need to buy tomato plants flowers etc still too. Should hopefully have most of it done by EOD Mother's Day or thereabouts.

Re: Lawn & Garden Thread
The 2023 growing season is officially underway as of today! In addition to the bean seeds over by the shed (50 bush beans and 50 waxies), we have 3 tomato plants this year. 1 beef steak big boy and 2 early girls. Then 2 pots with cages for pole beans to climb KY white half runners. Then 2 more pots for asparagus beans. All of those have seeds I just sowed today. Garlic chives, parsley, dill, thyme, basil, and oregano. Some flowers in some pots and the front porch flower bed, etc.

Re: Lawn & Garden Thread
Looking good Les, you inspired me to take some pics. Veggies in the pics: Lettuce at various stages, turnips are awesome, zucchini bed, tomatoe patch , cucumbers are starting to vine up the fence, cabbage patch, potatoes doing well , I’ve hilled them twice already, probably will hill one more time then put straw mulch down for weed control. Just need some rain, but I still have plenty in the rain barrels

Re: Lawn & Garden Thread
Hilled the potatoes one more time , then put straw down for even more protection. Keeps weeds down , ground cooler, and conserves moisture, which is already hard to come by.
