tpweather wrote: Sun Jan 22, 2023 7:50 am Good Morning and nice to see snow falling. Roads are covered and I thought there would be more on the trees but that is not the case. Les I believe the forecast is looking good and though never a perfect forecast it seems we are on target. Hopefully this is just the appetizer and we get the main course mid-week.
Dynamic cooling for the win! HRRR was a little too cold but it had the right idea along with the RGEM. NAM was too warm.
Les here is the problem I believe sometimes when trying to make a forecast. You believe the forecast you throw out is good but with this storm the NAM was too warm. So that is in the back of your mind which model is correct. I believe last night when we saw the temps drop into the mid-upper 20's that was a good sign. This storm you don't have a big surge of milder air into the system. BTW moderate to almost heavy snow falling.WOW. Will we miss on the low end
I agree Tim! WAA isn't as strong since we're not dealing with a big wound up low pressure system. That is what we are facing for Wed, but not today! 1/2" on the ground now. If this intensity keeps up for a few hours, 2" shouldn't be a problem.

Heaviest accumulations should be along and NW of I-71 which is where a lot of the mesoscale / short term models had it. Enjoy it all! :)

Glad to see some heavier amounts. Was not 100p/c sure but thought somewhere between Indy and Dayton we would see some banding of snow and the totals could reach 3-4 inches. Lucky for me here in Northern Ky that we also got in on the banding but maybe not to that extent.

Always a day late and a dollar short. I would have had one issued NW of I-71 at the very least last night.
Yea , by late afternoon yesterday with the direction of the hires models, that an advisory should have been issued

Looking at the radar for the Ohio Valley and a strong signal just south of Louisville. My guess that is probably an area of sleet but have not seen the ground reports.

Funny is if we bust on the low side of snow totals most folks are fine but miss the other way and folks will complain. Does this snow in any way help the cause for a more winter like set up on Wednesday and the wonderful answer of maybe is what I am going with at this time. Way to make a call!!!

As of 8am LOU and SDF both reporting light snow and 32 / 33 degrees so if that isn't sleet, it could be snow that is falling and then melting before it hits the ground. Since we are a but colder up here, that should fall in the form of snow for us. If so, then we could reach our higher end totals of 2" as well. :)

It's so gorgeous to watch. We don't use our fireplace much (I wish we had a gas one) - but YouTube adds some ambiance.

Trev is probably burrowed in his den. Per radar, Lebanon is getting hammered with those big flakes! 31 / 29 here with a solid inch or so on the ground. Looks gorgeous! Still seeing some nice returns down by LOU that will continue to roll up our way.

Great Pick. Yes the bust of the forecast was the banding of heavier snow was further southeast than I expected
