January 15-17, 2022 Winter Storm Discussion
Re: January 15-17, 2022 Winter Storm Discussion
Looking towards mid-week and another shot of cold heading this way. Will there be preip with this front or even a small wave of low pressure. A little to early on trying to guess but worse case is we warm up Wednesday and it starts to rain and the cold air rushes in and you get that flash freeze. Hoping that is not the case. Lets see models later today as this first system starts to move out of the way.

As of midnight, 1.1" at CVG for the contest. DAY 0.8" CMH 1.1" We will update totals later on today for the entire event. About 2" for my backyard!

Saw a Tweet from NWS Buffalo...between midnight and 1:00am they measured 4.6 inches of snow with an additional 4.0 inches falling between 1:00 and 2:00am. A follower responded that in Tonawanda, NY, between 12:50am and 1:50am, he measured 5.75 inches. Wow...speechless!!!!

I would have to disagree. It would have been cool broadcasting from the salt pile or having someone else drive around while you are narrating what's going on to the public.

Nice! I thought you would have seen more since Maysville got 7.5" The really heavy stuff must have just missed you. Still a nice event though.

Re: January 15-17, 2022 Winter Storm Discussion
Update from the boys:
.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
The backside of the secondary S/W digging into the OH/TN Vlys is
beginning to move through parts of the ILN FA as the primary
system that had impacted the region for the past day or so
continues to pull east of the immediate area. The secondary
system will provide only meager lift, but it will overlap
somewhat with a sufficiently saturated DGZ and some steeper LL
lapse rates to produce occasional light snow and flurries
through at least early afternoon before the best lift begins to
pivot east. As such, will see the greatest coverage of light
snow/flurries gradually shift to the ENE through early
afternoon, becoming more focused from NW OH through central OH
by late in the day. Have upped PoPs slightly from previous fcst
update in accordance with expectation for light snow activity to
be fairly widespread -- at least through 18z before shifting
off to the east through the afternoon.
With extensive cloud cover, intermittent light snow, and gusty
WNW winds to about 25-30 MPH at times, highs will only to out
around 30 degrees area-wide.

A good 2.5 inches here in Hyde Park. Wife just left for work, today in Hillsboro. FedEx driver told her their driver out there said it was a mess.

MJ - I love the Mario and Luigi hats on the kids. I think I said that last year! Just got done shoveling my driveway during my lunch hour too.
Re: January 15-17, 2022 Winter Storm Discussion
Good Afternoon and you almost forget what its like to have a mid-January snow. Even during the mid-day the melting process is slow compared to the recent February snows we have been getting lately. The sun just makes such a big difference.

Re: January 15-17, 2022 Winter Storm Discussion
I'm glad I got the snow removed from the driveway. That layer of sleet underneath either got scraped up, or whatever is left, is melting due to just enough radiation making it through the clouds. Should have plenty of time for the water to dry up before it gets cold tonight to avoid refreezing issues.
