Annual CVG Snowfall Contest for 2024-2025

Hello everyone and :welcomeconfetti: to our annual snowfall contest here on AV! We do this contest every winter for CVG! The same rules as always will apply. The contest runs from Nov 1st to Mar 31st. October or April snow which is loved and cherished... does not count towards this contest. You have two challenges. Predict the first accumulating snowfall at CVG. 0.1" or more. Remember, a trace doesn't count. Then, how much total snowfall will CVG receive for the contest period? Verification will be as always using the Daily Climate Report from NWS ILN.

To help you in your quest for victory, here are some snowfall stats for CVG. Avg date for the first accum snowfall of 0.1" or more is 11/28. CVG's seasonal avg is 23.3".

Please submit your contest entries by Halloween Night, October 31st at midnight.

Example of what your official contest entry should look like when you submit it:

When will CVG receive the first snowfall accumulation? 11/23
Total snowfall for CVG Nov 1 - Mar 31: 21.7"

Thank you for entering and Good Luck to all! May all of our snowfall dreams come true! :snowman: :polarfish:

You guys crack me up! I love a good snow too, really, it's just that I love Fall and particularly Halloween Season. I put up a pretty extensive outdoor display and I hate putting all that work in only to have winds or snows mess that all up. Really, if we could just have a bubble overhead for the week of Halloween, I'm good if it snows 3 feet on November 1st. But my 'hood is a veritable wind tunnel on a good day, let alone during any storm rain or snow-wise. I have to take that wind tunnel into consideration with every prop I build because of that. Most of the store-bought animatronics for example wouldn't last 10 minutes in the wind I get. I used to put a red helium balloon on a string attached to my storm sewer grate and set up a clown head and hands, but within seconds of tying the balloon, the wind pushed it straight to the ground and <POP!>. Now I have to use a red balloon on the end of a stick of PVC pipe. Doesn't look anywhere near as cool that way. :x

I love scary movies Dave and It was indeed a good one! Both the original made for TV one with Tim Curry as Pennywise and the newer version at the movie theater. What an awesome idea! "Hey Georgie, wanna balloon?" "They all float down here!"

I enjoy scary movies, too! :happyhalloween: :clown: :robot:  :yipes: Fearfest on AMC e.g. has quite a plethora of nostalgic ones! ;)

Last night saw the original 1980 Friday the 13th that starred Adrienne King and Betsy Palmer. Adrienne played camp counselor Alice Hardy and Betsy as Jason's mother Mrs. Pamela Voorhees who was a camp cook when Jason drowned while trying to swim and his pleas for help were ignored by counselors.

Adrienne King was interviewed during breaks in the movie and she still looks good for 63! :thumbupright:

Betsy Palmer passed away in May 2015 of natural causes at age 88 at a hospice care center in CT.

Good Morning and here is the snowfall prediction for the 24/25 season.

1ST snowfall- December 2nd 2024

Total Snowfall for CVG- 27.2 inches

So I went higher than normal and my reasoning is I expect plenty of moisture this winter which not only helps with the drought but should bring us above normal snowfall. Last year I saw more sunny days in the winter than I can remember. This year back to the days of clouds that seem to have every winter. Good luck to everyone and hopefully I can lift the trophy on April 1st which btw is April Fools Day
