Event Totals for this area.
CVG - 0.83"
Me - 0.96"
Boone Co Mesonet - 1.32"
Again, as has been the trends, the further south you go, the heavier the rain and the further north, the lesser amounts of rain.
Now we still have delightful weather Wed - Fri with low humidity, but the temps look to be warmer this weekend. Mid to U80s now expected. Rain chances continue to look low in that 10-30% range this weekend thru Labor Day.

Euro continues to have much more moisture for Sunday, Labor Day and Tues of next week vs the GFS. It'll be interesting to see if the Euro is correct again. GFS has been losing these model battles for a while now and the Euro's performance has greatly improved. That means absolutely nothing come Fall and Winter of course. Different seasons, different patterns, thus different model performances.

I like your rain chances mentioned for the weekend. And I don't think its anything near some of the amounts we just saw overnight , just very isolated chance of t- showers

That map clearly shows the trends we've seen in rainfall distribution this summer. West and South continue to be the big winners.

Thanks! The Euro is probably a little too aggressive with the moisture flow from the Gulf.

The front has passed and dews are dropping. 60 for the dew currently at CVG, much better then the 70 the site was reporting only 2-3 hours ago.

Good morning! Last day of August and what a beaut it will be. 57 imby this morning. Highs in the U70s to the L80s can be expected across our region. Enjoy it! The warmth and humidity will be back very quickly.

I saw that this should be the 3rd wettest August at CVG. Usually to get in the top 10 you need a tropical system that moved nearby but that is not the case this year. Sure we had tropical like conditions with tons of moisture but no systems. Of course my lawn except for this past Monday has missed out on much of the rain but with the rain Monday my lawn perked right up and that happens quite often in later August and September especially since the dew points dropped quickly yesterday and this kept the moisture in the ground.

Here's a graphic from Met. John Gumm at Local 12 he posted the other day:

Locally, IMBY I am closer to that #2 ranking. There were a couple of times CVG got shafted and I cashed in. Southern parts of the county like down by Walton and the I-75 / I-71 71 split, are def at #2 with 9-10" of rain observed throughout the month.

I believe my total was below the normal for August lol. Be fun to find out about those top 10 wettest August if there was a tropical system in those years that moved nearby. My guess is probably more than 50p/c of them had some form of a tropical system move its way through the Ohio Valley.

If I wasn't busy taking a bunch of training courses for my new customer, I'd be interested in researching that as well.

I had some time this afternoon Tim to perform this research. Below are the Top Ten wettest Augusts at CVG and the number of tropical systems which brought rain to our area. Again, this is only for August. No other months are in the below totals. Also of note, the below years are ranked correctly from 1 being the wettest to number 10 on the list. So 1879 was the wettest Aug on record and you can see why.
1879 - 2
2018 - 1
1888 - 1
1982 - 0
1926 - 0
1876 - 0
2005 - 1
1954 - 0
1920 - 0
1921 - 0
2022 is now #3 on the list (1921 drops off) which of course has zero.
Also Tim, you mentioned that we saw tropical activity in Aug on the Top Ten wettest Aug list about 50% of the time. We had 4 out of 10 that had Aug tropical remnants impacting our area or about 40% of the time. So your guess was virtually spot on!
I found the above info using the site below. It has storm archive information for the Atlantic and Pacific basins including tropical cyclone statements and track maps! Add this to your weather bag of goodies!
