Radar shows the heavier rains now over our SE Forecast area headed NW in our direction so the "meat and potatoes" of the storm should be occurring over the next several hours. Wonderful timing for the PM commute. :(

Mesoanalysis shows that the center of Helene is at 984 MB near the London / Corbin area of SE KY. The upper low is over the TN / AL border at this time.

This will be our best chance to get those 50-60 mph gusts. CVG came close at the 1pm obs with 47. LEX had 58 I believe.

I lost power about 90 minutes ago, which is rare. During Ike my power was only out for a couple of hours so I’m hoping for the same outcome today.

Oh wow! I was down for 3 1/2 days after Ike. Are you on Owen Electric or Duke? Owen is always good usually at getting the power back up as fast as they can. That's been my experience. I've heard horror stories about Duke lol

I'm checking the outage viewers that I posted earlier, and I am seeing a lot of power outages coming in as I feared would happen. Fingers crossed... mine is still on so far at home from what I can tell.

I have Owen so I am hoping they are as efficient as they usually are, but they may have to wait until winds die down before they venture out.

Yeah, I agree. Might not be until overnight tonight or something.

Helene is now down to a depression with winds of 35 mph over SE KY. Movement is NNW at 28 mph so she's starting to slow down now too as the interaction with the upper low continues.

Highest gust at CVG so far is still 47 mph which just occurred at the 2pm reading. CVG is up to 0.71" for rain. The peak gust at LEX has been 64!mph Wow! :o

Over 200,000 customers across the state of KY are now without power. That pales in comparison for the millions that are out over the SE US of course. The size and scope of this storm are one for the books. I would imagine that the name Helene will get retired by the NHC.

Gust over 50mph here in the last 10-15 minutes and rain total adding up quickly as well. Some clearing trying to show up in southeast Kentucky but not sure if this will ever make it here especially with the wet grounds

Thanks Tim! Absolutely hammering here at the office! I'm up on the 6th FL so there has to be 50-60 mph gusts being this high up off the ground.

Helene's center is at 986 MB and you can see it starting to elongate now as the system continues to weaken and get absorbed by the upper low.
