SPC has marginal for the tri-state for Tuesday/Tuesday night which I agree with. I have definitely become less impressed with our severe potential over the last couple days of model runs. Still isolated severe and something to keep an eye on of course!

For this event, low-level moisture return is forecast to be weak, with surface dewpoints only increasing into the upper 50s and lower 60s F across parts of the mid Mississippi. For this reason, MLCAPE is forecast to peak only in the 500 to 1000 J/kg range across much of the moist sector. Increasing large-scale ascent ahead of the approaching system is forecast to be sufficient for the development of scattered thunderstorms. Forecast soundings in north-central Illinois, along and near the moist axis, by 03Z/Wednesday have 0-6 km shear in the 55 to 65 knot range, with 700-500 mb lapse rates of 7.5 to 8 C/km. This should be enough for strong to severe updrafts. Isolated wind damage, hail and a possibly a few tornadoes are expected to be the primary threats. Although a Slight Risk appears warranted for this event, there is still uncertainty concerning the magnitude of the severe threat. This uncertainty is mainly due to the weak moisture return, and to the later timing of the convective potential, which is forecast to be mostly in the evening and overnight period.

I also don’t like the second LP popping. It’ll muck up the atmosphere for better severe odds. As soon as I started seeing that I’m like meh. Lol

Although the second low popping could assist with that little changeover to snow at the very end.

This system has also sped up. The front passes late Wed afternoon or early evening then temps crash very quickly and we see a touch of snow Wed evening at the end then it's over. Thurs will be sunny but chilly behind the frontal passage. Then we will warm back up again. Next weekend looks pretty good right now. Somewhere around 3/5 is when our next system comes in. We will see 60s if not 70 degrees prior to that system coming in. Looks like March will come in like a lamb this year.

MJO is still firmly in the COD per the Aussies as of 2/23 and shows no signs of coming out. A lot of the modeling has it coming out in the closing days of Feb in Phase 3 then getting into Phase 4 by the 2nd week of March. Phase 3 is cold Phase 4 is warm for March. So I would expect to see a cold shot of air during the 1st half of March at some point then we should welcome full on Spring is kind of my thinking. Tellies currently show a -PNA rising towards neutral with an AO and NAO both dropping towards neutral in the longer term.

I agree. I'll go with 70. We will have a mild start to the day also thanks to WAA. Should start the day 15 to 20 degrees warmer then we did this morning in the mid 20s.

No prob. 12Z Long range GFS keeps an upper low around Hudson's Bay so cloudy / cooler period ahead in March if it pans out. NW Flow kind of a cold and dry pattern.
