Run,run, run the cicada's are attacking. Had at least 20 dive at my head when mowing. Though I will admit they taste good on the grill.
Hi Tim,
If Hitchcock were still alive, "The Cicadas!"
That bombshell Melanie Daniels to your rescue!

Is Jimmy Hoffa one of the bodies?

They’ve been wild here in Deer Park/Silverton. Loud enough that I’ve had to turn up the volume on the TV
They’re quiet at the moment. That’s either due to the rain & cooler temps, or they’re migrating to the million dollar winner nearby my place in hopes of getting a cut of the winnings

Good Morning and the Cicada's have been rather noisy but so far the amount has not been huge. When they are walking on the ground they are kind of freaky looking to say the least. This is my fourth round and each time the amounts have went down. I remember 1970 and they were everywhere or maybe I was just outside all the time lol. 1987 had more than 2004 and still waiting another 4 weeks or so to see how this year stacks up. Btw birds are so busy and had a woodpecker commit suicide last evening when it went headfirst into the big window in the front of the house. We usually average about 5 a year but this is the first woodpecker. Again after last year and covid most wildlife is exploding as the human factor was not the norm last year and wildlife was able to increase because of less humans were not out and about.

Same here Tim. My first was 1987 and it was crazy! Very high numbers and defining noise! 2004 wasn't as bad and this year so far, other then some bodies, I have not heard a single one yet. At my brother's in Milford, a few bodies also. Now in Anderson Township at my Brother's in-laws, an older neighborhood there and it is wild and crazy as Trev describes!

Hi JP,
I believe that you and myself are too far north to get any cicada action, Bro, unfortunately.

This weekend they will be in full form as most of the nymphs have emerged by now & are in the full adult phase.

We have had plenty of Cicada's but we live near the woods. Again each 17 years the numbers that I have noticed have gone down each time. Lived in Taylor Mill in 1970 and Edgewood in 1987,2004 and 2021.

Heard quite a few more today as the numbers are starting to rise a bit imby now. The warmth coming up ought to help their cause.

Cicada craziness in my yard! Yesterday was the day they all learned how to fly! lol! Backyard gave quite the aerial display and the birds are very happy! I monitor a couple of areas for continued emergence and it's definitely slowed up. I don't mind them at all but trying to keep the pup from eating too many is a challenge.

All the Cicadas must have moved to our yard. It's deafening outside, too loud to think, they are everywhere.
If you take 471 from Cincy toward NKU you'll see millions of them swarming all over the place.

I hear them in the distance, but it's never been a huge issue in my hood at all. You know they are around but it's not annoying or loud whatsoever.

Off topic bug question: I usually plan on seeing lightening bugs around June 1 in my yard but have yet to see any so far this Summer. Have any of you guys seen any yet?

I saw my first one May 31st. I thought that was a little early to be seeing them. It seems like each summer the number of them dwindles but maybe that is just my perception.

I always have a fair number of them here esp the later in June we go and into July. There's a little creek at the bottom of the hill imby so water attracts them so my numbers are usually good each year as a result.

We seem to be peaking now for the cicadas here imby. Can really hear them now but still no swarms that bother me or fly in my face. They are all flying around up in the trees. Saw a couple lower to the ground while mowing but not a huge deal as some people have experienced.
