Good morning Tim... GFS and Euro both look active for the 2nd half of next week if today fails to provide anything.

Radar shows a couple of nice downpours over the SE, but sprinkley, light showers scattered about for the rest of us.

For CVG: Thus far in May 2021 we have almost recovered the temperature departure from the first half of the month and as of yesterday are only 0.9 degrees below average after the -5 to -10 to start. Rainfall surprisingly is above normal albeit slightly at +0.39".

47 up in Ft Wayne currently so that colder air will slowly push southward and I expect us I-70 folk to see upper 50s by this afternoon. Currently 66 in my hood.

So pretty much a nowcast for today, but the latest HRRR brings in some storms to the Tri State around the 5-6 pm timeframe. Need to watch the batch of storms currently in the Springfield IL area as this will be what affects us later this afternoon if the Hi Res is correct.

Some light rain trying to push in now from the West may try and put a damper on anything later. Need to see some fuel for anything strong to pop later.

Looks like the boys agree with your thinking, Les:

An area of low pressure and associated cold front will move
across the region today. This will allow for showers and some
thunderstorms. Cooler temperatures are expected across
northwestern portions of the region northwest of Dayton.
Temperatures in this area will be in the 50s to low 60s. South
of Interstate 70 temperatures are expected to reach into the
upper 60s to middle 70s. Winds will pick up after the frontal
boundary with wind gusts up around 20 to 30 mph. In advance of
the front expect some thunderstorm development. There will be
the potential for isolated strong to severe storm development
during the afternoon and early evening hours. Damaging winds are
expected to be the primary threat. Extensive cloud cover is
expected today, which may limit the severe threat.

I agree... seeing some very light rain now attm. Probably only a few hundredths but this will help to limit the CAPE unless clouds can thin. Looking at the visible sunshine prospects aren't looking good.

NW wind at KDAY now so us Dayton folk should start to see our temps drop shortly from north to south.

So what's causing this big cool down and gloominess for today and tomorrow, it's not like an Arctic front is blasting through? Normals are in the mid to upper 70's and we're only talking 50's. Ugh!

Same pattern we've seen since Feb.. a little block and an upper trough in Eastern Canada.

Getting some enhancement this afternoon with the front plus late May sun to develop some decent showers. Problem is they are scattered and hard to say if everyone gets a nice shower this evening. Nothing severe imo.

My folks and myself had lunch at Sara's Family Restaurant in Ft Wayne going up to Shipshewana on Mon and on our return trip yesterday. :) Sara's is known for big individual servings so for those who love to chow down, have a stealthy appetite! Mon I had Sesame Orange Chicken and yesterday I polished off a chef salad and a piece of chocolate cake. :)

Currently 45 and light drizzle here in G'ville ~~ BRRRR!

Turned out better than expecting this morning. Had .1 inch this morning, now half of an inch total. Add that to almost a half earlier this week, doing well here in Hyde Park.

CVG's reading at 12am was 50 degrees so if we stay below 54 today then we've got a new record cold high. We shall see!
