Great Posts all. Feel very lucky yesterday as the potential was to have a major outbreak. Hype is always tough because if you hype too much it looks bad or if you don't hype enough and get a severe outbreak you look bad. With severe weather I don't mind a little hype just so folks are aware what could happen.

The only problem I had yesterday was some schools and business owners closed early though the severe part of the day was likely to occur after 5pm. Not sure what weather outlet they were tuning into so not sure what went into that decision.

I agree with this. Businesses and schools react more to the weather now versus when I was in school. We never would have let out early due to severe wx or wintry weather like they do today. We had a severe hail storm when I was in Kindergarten and it hit right as school was letting out and we were getting on the bus to come home. I'll never forget it!

Speaking of local weather outlets, I wanted to see the coverage from local stations to see who was more tolerable and informative. By far Brandon Skinner from wcpo was the most informative, quick and precise and had the best grasp on operating all the bells and whistles at their disposal. IMO…. He was minutes ahead of ILN in calling the warned areas in Ripley and Adam’s counties

Bgoney that is the one station I did not tune to because I thought Steve R was the main person. I checked the other 3 and fox with Steve H was good though Steve not as quick but a guy name Evan I believe was really on top of the game. Channel 12 was terrible. Channel 5 was a little slow to the punch at first but towards the end was good. The Weather Channel was in town but again 2 minutes of weather and 10 minutes of ads-no thanks.

Tim, I totally forgot about 19, lol. But that’s good to know. The chin was there and this Skinner guy totally outdid the head honcho. Probably in both cases here the younger guys have a better grasp of operating all the ever increasing gadgets at their disposal

Steve H has always been a good met but you can tell he is getting older like myself and as expected with the tech we have today he was just a little slower. I guess John G was on vacation because I tuned in there and spent a good 3 minutes before I had to change the channel. These folks do a great job and with info changing quickly its not easy. The worse part is the severe threat lasted until about 8pm and I missed Jeopardy and to see how much knowledge I don't have lol.

Gumm is the only one now at Channel 12 that I watch. The newer Mets that they have on the channel I just cannot get used too. Tera Blake has been doing the morning show for a long time now and her bias against cold and snow is laughable. She clearly only likes warm and sunny weather. I miss the days when a Met was doing coverage on TV (severe or snow) and they used to have a passion that you can see and hear. You just don't see that much anymore. Tom Skilling has retired. Thank God we will have the great James Spann out there but I wonder how much longer he will be working until he retires.

With such cold air aloft, don't be surprised if you see a t-storm this afternoon and evening and also some small hail / graupel is also going to be possible in the stronger cells. Nothing severe is expected but some small hail cannot be ruled out. Very cold 500 MB temps and low freezing levels.

Radar currently shows a nice batch of snow over S Wisc and N ILL. This is in association with the upper low which I am expecting to drop SE over us later tonight into tomorrow. This is where we will see our chance at some snow, perhaps for the last time until Fall or next winter.

Makes me think of Rich Apuzzo. He was a great on air personality. I think he worked at channel 19 about 25 years ago when I first remember seeing him. He was, in my opinion, by far the most passionate on air weather man of that time. His passion and love for weather really came through on air.

I could not agree more Doug. Rich definitely loved forecasting the weather and it absolutely showed on air. He loved snow storms too!

Just want to add some info concerning Rich. Not sure I would have ever found the weather blogs if not for his. My favorite band has been Rush since 1976 and was on the internet and somehow type in something about Rush and his site came up. Besides my family the two things I love most of all is music and weather. Of course Les was on this site and several others on here but they gladly yet me spill my thoughts lol on the weather. Never had used a model until then. He was so good and similar in age to me and we lost him at such a young age.

Trev and I had a few other weather forums before AV. Eric was with us in those days. I think it was just us 3 LOL When we all met each other on Rich's forum, then we met more of you over the years too. Then we launched AV and the rest is history! Anyway, I credit Rich with bringing us all together because without that, AV may have never been born.

48 degrees as of 12pm with winds continuing to gust to 30 mph. Radar starting to light up now with showers and even a few t-storms as we talked about earlier. These will begin to weaken after sunset. Then, we get the upper low alter tonight into tomorrow morning and that is our shot at seeing a bit of snow.

The weekend looks cool but dry.

He was minutes ahead of ILN in calling the warned areas in Ripley and Adam’s counties
I was watching him on one TV and Ryan Hall on the other in our basement after that storm in Indiana, and then NKY looked like it was aiming at Amelia. Ryan focused on New Castle, so WCPO helped me understand what was coming. Seemed like a lot skipped over Cincy and then fired back up east of us (Williamsburg, Ripley, etc)

Thats how I found this group too- I was on his forum and then followed y'all here.

SPS issued from the boys for all locations:

...Showers and Thunderstorms with Small hail and Gusty Winds This
Afternoon into Early Evening....

Showers and scattered thunderstorms will increase in coverage this
afternoon. Many of these showers and storms will produce brief
episodes of small hail with wind gusts up to 40 mph possible. The
showers and storms will decrease in coverage early this evening.

Yes and I saw where Justin Michaels was reporting from Covington and it showed the Cincy skyline.

I remember Tony Sands, Ira Joe Fisher, Steve Deshler, and Steve H. e.g. from my years of residing in the Tri-state. :)

Hi Les,

I hadn't heard of Rich Apuzzo or his Skyeye site :) until having come across Trev's original first AV via a newspaper article feature about Trevor, he and his family's miraculous survival from a tornado which sparked his interest in meteorology and his founding of AV. A wx friend named Mary Bosken from Cincy via our The Weather Channel forum days posted that article about Trev and AV and from there I found about you, Trev, and some other members having been a part of Rich's Skyeye. :) I'll always be forever grateful to that wx friend Mary and our linkage via the former TWC forum boards and that news article that led me to AV. :)

I remember Ira Joe on our local news and when he went National also. It always amazed me how he could write backwards. He made it look so easy!

As you recall Bro, for a while it was just me and you posting. Trev was MIA and we did not have the wonderful member base back then that we do today. We also owe a lot of membership in part due to Rich and a lot of us meeting on Skyeye before coming over here to AV. Anyway, my point here is that you have been with Trev and I Eric (outside of Skyeye) since Day 1 and I appreciate it. Glad you have stuck around all these years., :)

My high was 52 at midnight. 44 currently with partly sunny skies. I have not seen any rain since I have been home from work. Current radar picture shows a lot of shower activity moving in from the West ahead of the upper low.
