Les this summer has been warm and muggy but the good thing is we are getting breaks which makes it a little nicer. Will there be more heat this summer and sure as we are in early July. The big thing is to get these breaks and hopefully rainfall will bring in the nicer weather. Once we get into late July through mid-Oct really is a drier period for us and getting rainfall much harder unless you have a tropical system that can thrown moisture this way or we wait for the jet stream to head south.

I'm thinking that the heat will break around mid Aug as the tropics start to have more of an influence with incoming troughs. Heat remains to our West and SW. Until then, we will continue to get glancing blows of the heat as we've been seeing all summer.

Rain moving in an mainly light to moderate at times. There are patches of very heavy rain and again this is more localized but if you get into a heavier band 2-3 inches can fall in a short period of time. Will need to watch these patches of heavier rain this afternoon.

Per radar, it looks like we've got a couple more hours of light to mod rain to go before we get a break.

From the boys:

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
Widespread shower and some thunderstorm activity will continue
to push into the region today. With this widespread non-severe
activity this morning there is some question on how much the
atmosphere will destabilize for the afternoon hours. Cannot rule
out isolated damaging wind and potential for isolated tornado
given some shear with the MCV.

Looking at moisture transport vectors there is some concern for
heavy rain and potential flooding. One thing working against
this however is that the heavier rain will be more progressive
and where more of the banding rain is expected to set up the
rain will most likely be light to moderate and lack some
convective elements. Will continue to monitor however to see if
a flood watch becomes needed.

Perfect day in terms of rainfall as most is soaking in the ground. Last week I thought New England could end up with some temps in the 30's this weekend but at the moment looks like low 40's is the lowest the forecasters are showing. Still a nice shot of cool air but again this is not out of the norm for that area in early July.

Once we get this first round of rain through the area what will happen later today and overnight. Looks like another area of rain will end up forming but how far will the drier air attack this area. Looks like we are on that border line of a decent second round of rain or just some very light rain while most stays to the south. I believe its a 50/50 chance either way which means I have no ideal which ideal is correct. Severe weather is pretty much off the table but like Les mentioned this morning it looked really low for the local area anyways. Good thing is the grass will be mowed and shaped up this weekend and no extended heat over the next 7 days

I can't rule out scattered action but the activity we've seen today has stabilized things for the most part. I don't think we'll see a bunch more.

Not much on the east side, I was hoping it would at least rain enough so I could go home early, not the case.

0.47" event total for the day at CVG - combined with 0.44" from Wed, that gives us a grand total of 0.91" Not bad! My amounts are probably similar, close to that 1" mark.

Looks like most of the area is done with the rain for the first round. The southern half of Illinois, southwest half of Indiana and western Kentucky is where new action should form over the next few hours. Once it develops will need to watch and see if we can get some additional rainfall this evening. The dew points are still in the low 70's so we still have enough juice around but need to watch the exact direction of showers and thundershowers later today.

Yea , about the same here . It certainly un der-performed for SW Ohio until it got Into our far eastern counties where instability had a chance to build.
