Check out the heavy moisture moving north for later on. That's going to be very heavy snow for those areas that change over.

Looks like Springboro MGY has been switching between sleet and freezing rain - now back to freezing rain according to the ob.

 Any chance dynamic cooling comes into play in an atmospheric set-up such as this?

tpweather wrote: Thu Feb 03, 2022 7:19 am Once this low reaches southeast Kentucky many times you will see a sudden drop in temps and cold quickly invades the area compared to during the day when its just a slow decline. How much moisture is left once the bigger drop in temp happens is key because all layers of the atmosphere should be cold enough for all snow. Great point is that if you miss just say .20 that is a mix compared to all snow and talking 2 inches of snow either way. At the height of the storm later this afternoon and early evening I feel that folks just to our northwest will be getting pounded and I see the NWS has 6-8 inches and can't argue with that but usually in these events you will have a more narrow band that gets hit harder for an hour or two so that is why I went 8-12 though the 12 inch totals will be more localized but exact location hard to pinpoint this far out.
I'm watching to see where the low develops. Currently thinking 1009 MB across central LA. Not 100% sure yet though. Contour isn't really closed off yet.

So for Dayton posters looks like the snow line is around Troy right now - basically aligning a couple miles north of I-70.

Absolutely. There will likely be some periods this afternoon when precipitation rates are heavy enough that the heavy sleet mixes with or changes to a burst of heavy snow for a time before back to sleet. Eventually the cold air will win and it'll all change to snow. Timing for that is TBD. But yeah I fully expect some bursts of heavy snow to mix in with the sleet this afternoon, especially 275 loop on north and west.

Finally some daylight and ice on the trees and a slight glare on the driveway and sidewalk but the roads look only wet so far.

Just grey freezing rain (or rain? - hard to tell) here. Still 32 degrees.

What could have been is right. Hopefully the cold and moisture make something out of this in time.
