-7 and wind chill -34 at 6am this morning. Do we hit 0 during the daylight hours and going to be close. Not many storms in this area where we have a decent snow and temps go below directly behind the storm.

No blizzard per definition but we had one hour at 3am with winds were at 35 mph. Must have 3 in a row to be considered a blizzard. I thought a blizzard had to have sustained winds of 35 or more but what I see is if you have gusts over 3 hours in a row that is considered a blizzard. So yes we had a blizzard overnight. My bad as I read the definition incorrectly.

Wind chill advisory for folks in south Florida from Naples over to West Palm Beach on Saturday. This is rare and does remind you of the late 70's and I remember they even had snow flurries in Miami.

Good morning! Last report I saw was 4.2" at CVG with around 0.25" of liquid. 17:1 for the snow ratio. We figured the wind would cut into it. 5" around here with a Union, KY report near me also to back that up. -8 currently IMBY with a windchill in the -30s! What a beast of a storm! Low is 982 MB over Eastern Lake Ontario and she's bombing out now. Look for blowing and drifting snow all day and tonight with scattered snow showers also possible with additional light accum as we discussed last night. For Christmas Eve... 30+ mph gusts still likely with more blowing snow as well. Temps today will be lucky to get much above zero. I bet in some cases they won't if zero sunshine is observed.

Woke up in Knoxville to... no snow! Not sure how that went down, as the radar returns were showing a band of heavy snow set to come through after midnight. On to NKY. Glad to see everyone got a good covering up there overnight, but interesting to see that nobody got those higher totals we saw on some of the later model runs. Backside snows are almost always over-modeled.

I don't know if any of those records will fall but it'll be in the top 2 or 3 no doubt!

If I recall, warm air gets trapped in the valley down here. Knoxville to Chatty corridor almost always stays rain.

In this case yes and no. For the most part some of the models had the frozen qpf amounts reasonable , but all the variables involved made the kuchera invalid, and in the GFS case , the updated version of Kuchera may have to be tweaked

I never use Kuchera and believe its wrong more than its correct. Some folks love it but I never use it as a tool.

You can sure hear that wind roaring out there! Blowing snow of course continuing... I even saw my first snow plow doing the neighborhood. Surprised to see that already with the wind re-covering a lot of roads that they have to continue to plow and re-plow.

The plow has come down the street 3 times and hard to tell as its just becomes a layer of ice with blowing snow covering it back up.I saw headlines where this is a once in a lifetime storm and it gets your attention though it really comes down to how long you have been alive. This was an impressive storm and probably in my top 10 because of the wind and cold but compared to the 78 blizzard not even close and that storm it was the amount of heavy rain before hand and the ice was so thick underneath but we had that 15 minutes heavy sleet with that storm and then the heavy snow for a short period time and boom everything just froze. Of course we still had big snow banks from earlier storms that year so that did not help. Was neat to see the sudden drop in temps yesterday evening and you could see my back patio freezing over a little at a time.

The most impressive items for me was the temp drop, the flash freeze, the death band of snow that came thru last night and the wind now continues to increase! A great storm! Nothing like the 78 blizz and we've seen way bigger accum and much longer duration of snowfall but these quick hitters can be just as bad. What makes this one so bad was the monster temp drop and the wind. This storm would have been your avg storm IMO but add in those two elements and this storm deserves some respect.
