Look like Debby is getting her act together. Probably gets to Hurricane 1 and maybe 2 status but the biggest problem for folks in the southeast will be flooding rains. This system looks to have staying power for several days and some models are showing 20-30 inches of rain near the Hilton Head area. My brother-n-law and his family are in the outer banks and he is probably in the central area and though plenty of rain there as well he may miss the heaviest which looks to be just south of that area. Another system out in the Atlantic as well so the tropical season which started out quick back in June has been slow for most of July but August is ramping up quickly.

At the moment the likely area for tropical systems is the eastern gulf coast and eastward. Part of that reason is the strong Bermuda Ridge out in the Atlantic that is forcing these storms inward plus the monsoon season in the southwest still having a hard time getting going and the ridge in the mountains is strong as well.

Looks like 10-20" of rain can be expected with isolated amounts of 30"+ from FL and into the Carolinas the week progresses due to the slow movement of Debby. Flooding is the biggest issue with this storm and will continue to be in the days to come.

That is quite a bit of rain. Most of that area has been near or above normal for rainfall this year so no doubt some flooding is going to occur.

Good Afternoon and Debby is almost to a crawl and will slowly move east to the Ga/Sc coastline by Tuesday. Normally then you would see the storm head north or out to sea. What makes this storm interesting besides the amount of moisture but the Bermuda Ridge which has been strong over the Atlantic Ocean this summer is still having influence and I believe it gets stronger with the system south of the ridge and this is why you see some models especially the GFS pushing the storm back to the west. How far west is still a tough call but I do understand why and again sometimes the ridging is just as important as the storm in terms of who gets hit the hardest. I see Sarasosta has got over 13 inches of rainfall with many bands that have hit that area. So yes sometimes the marginal tropical systems can provide the most damage in terms of flooding because they stall out and we have seen this several times over the western GOM area but no so much in the Ga/Sc area.

Agreed Tim. Slow moving tropical systems can be just as bad (if not worse) then a stronger or faster moving system. Flooding will be the big story with Debby 100%.

I have a cousin, whom she, her husband, and their daughter used to live in Sarasota. They're now residing in VA Beach.

Prayers and thoughts with all impacted. Sadly, so far Debby has claimed 4 lives.
