Great posts guys... If I recall correctly, didn't Beijing get their first snowfall of the season like a month earlier then normal? Pretty crazy!

Les,they are similar in Latitude as Cincinnati and similar temps but they have mountains to the north that protects them from some bigger snows. I know a little about the weather in China but again never easy finding all the info you want out of the country.

No doubt and whatever info you might get, can't be trusted anyway.

The wind won the battle today. I quit about 1:30 and went and unloaded a truck full of leaves. Of course the wind dies down some now but the rain is knocking on the doorstep here.

That is wild Bgoney and I have seen snow falling with temps in the low 40's but mid 50's seems almost impossible.

Wow... must be very very cold upstairs for that to happen then. I checked for kicks... the 12Z sounding from this morning at Topeka, KS and temp was 42 with a dew of 33. 850s, 700 MB temps 925 etc were all cold enough to support that claim as weird as it sounds.

I wonder if models are starting to come in a little colder this weekend. Makes you wonder by seeing how the upstairs had to be really cold in getting those snowflakes in the mid-50's Not much warming this weekend and will be interesting to see the exact track of the clipper. I really have not looked at the models yet but I will this evening. I will be leaving for Hilton Head on Friday and 7 days of golf and then will be heading back home and should be there late on the 20th and hopefully by then we have some interesting weather to follow.

Yeah and to your point from the other day, some morning sun would help to steepen the lapse rates to maybe make the snow showers more convective in nature. That would be nice to see. :)

18Z GFS keeps most of us dry on Sunday with the snow rolling thru Michigan. GFS has really gone northward with this thing versus a lot of the other guidance. But honestly... most models have changed their tune from run to run so confidence is very low with the clipper as to exactly what it's going to do as far as track and strength.

We're going to see a lot of wind tomorrow too with gusts to 40 mph possible once again like we saw today. Winds should begin to subside some on Saturday. But then the clipper on Sunday so pretty active! Cold Monday, moderating on Tues with some sunshine. Wed is my pick day of the week next week with the 60s for one day. Then the next front with rain by next Thurs comes in and temps fall behind that one once again.

I knew they had a shot at blizzard conditions with wind gusts 50 maybe 60 mph. It's pretty common there but man... that beat my expectations! :o

Great Post Les and yes they will get hit with blizzard conditions a few times each year and this storm had snows that were not high but some really strong winds but like you mentioned these also beat my expectations.

Getting nice and cold in Alaska and starting to see some temps getting near -20 in the interior. They do have a nice snow cover so that helps in getting some nice cold temps. Very nice to see some colder temps in the northern regions of the NH. Siberia is still around average but of course still cold with a few temps near -30. Getting some snows in southern Canada as well and of course some in the northern plains. We are still two weeks away from Thanksgiving and I like what is starting to happen in the northern hemisphere

After the cold first week , we are now close to normal and should stay there to finish off the first half of November, so that worked out pretty good. Question now is how does the second half go. Looks like more of the same with the pattern staying in a quasi- progressive pattern. 3-5days of slightly below then 3-5 days above. Doesn't appear to be anything way above/below that is sustainable. -EPO/+PNA comes and goes to quickly to really keep the cold/warmth entrenched in the lower 48. Models are not in tune with what the PAC is producing as they show something different in that area daily.
