Re: January 5-6th, 2025 First Legit Winter Storm of the Season
The deformation band should slide in here later this morning and be wrapped up by later this afternoon. 1004 MB low is going thru the Cumberland Gap and right into S WV as the morning wears on. Perfect! Upper low is still well intact across Western IN.

That wrap around is impressive and. Not breaking up at all. Very impressive storm!

There are some nice returns and some good banding features with the deform band to our West. I am licking my chops awaiting its arrival

850 MB low is over Cincy right now so once it passes, the backside snows will begin. We will see even higher snow ratios today then we did yesterday. Probably 18:1 not out of the question.

Also, CVG broke a daily snowfall record for 1/5. Old record was 6.9" from 1977

Re: January 5-6th, 2025 First Legit Winter Storm of the Season
An update from the boys:
.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
An upgrade to a Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Miami
County and counties east, including Franklin/Licking in central
OH. This was done based on accumulation trends and a band of
snowfall that could easily drop another few inches in spots.
While this may be borderline based on criteria, OHGO cameras
show many snow covered roads, highlighting the potential for
higher end impacts, especially through the morning hours.
Axis of wintry-mix continues to remain in southern OH and
northern KY. Still expecting some of this mix to creep a little
further north, but locations near I-70 are likely to only
observe snowfall. Reflectivity already showing signs of
weakening a bit in overall intensity, but some locations may
still receive another few inches of snowfall given that snow
accumulations will continue through Monday afternoon/evening.
One important thing to highlight is that wind gusts will begin
to increase later this morning and continue into the afternoon
on the backside of the surface low. Sustained winds of 10-20mph
with gusts up to 30-35mph expected throughout the day. With
additional light snowfall and snowpack on the ground, blowing
and drifting snow will create some reduced visibilities, adding
to the travel difficulties.
Accumulating snow will end in our northwest counties first in
west-central OH, perhaps by early afternoon. Snow continues to
taper from west to east through the evening.

roughly 8-1/2 to 8-3/4" here so far with maybe 1/4" sleet. Had 3" exactly with round 1, another 3-1/2-3-3/4" with round 2 (wind made it a little harder to measure due to some drifting), and just got a bit under 2" overnight, that was from right after the football game on til 7:15am. Fun storm!

The back end should produce nicely esp for the Tri-state area on south. Expecting 2-4" more today for our area along with windy conditions, blowing and drifting snow. High ratio fluffy snow too.House of Cards wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 7:36 am roughly 8-1/2 to 8-3/4" here so far with maybe 1/4" sleet. 8.5" in Fairfield. The dogs love it. We're wondering when the city will plow our street.

There is that year again. That January several storms in that 4-8 inch range just kept piling up and was very cold. Kentucky back then did not have ton the equipment to handle that kind of winter but of course less traffic than today. After today looks like a nice break but the cold will remain and not chance of getting to 32 this week.

We may come close to 32 this weekend but I also think we'll fall short. Most likely, we stay near to below freezing based on what I am seeing until we get to mid January. Since that is like 10 days out that could change when we get closer too.tpweather wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 7:52 amThere is that year again. Round 3 is starting in my hood; right now, I think it's a bit of graupel, but it's coming down at a good rate and am guessing the graupel will end once the column is completely cooled?

Yes snowing again and yesterday the ratio was higher than I expected and probably at least 12-1 and today I would expect 15-1 and maybe a tad higher. Temp has been below 25 the whole event which is rare around these parts.
