Good thing is we are still around 18p/c above normal for the year. I don't worry about this until May or so to see if the heat decides to make an early showing but the south had a very good winter season of rainfall so hopefully if we get the normal amounts of rain the next 3-4 months we should be in good shape.

I agree. I'm just afraid that a hot summer could be inbound for the country due to the lack of soil moisture and an impending La Nina to boot. We've had a lot of hot summers when a La Nina is developing. The lack of winter rain and snow isn't helping either to your point.

Quick update from the boys:

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...

Cold front is reaching the eastern portion of the ILN area.
Strong convection will continue to threaten southeast counties
for the next couple of hours. The rest of the area can expect
scattered showers in the rapidly diminishing forcing behind the
front.

Synoptic scale winds are likely to gust over 30 knots. Holding
off on a wind advisory for now since it appears strongest gusts
will stay north of the area. Temperatures are forecast to
plummet from the 50s and 60s into the 30s this afternoon as the
colder air rushes in.

No doubt Les the central and especially the northern plains need some rainfall. The south recovered quite nicely this winter with El Nino. Big question is will the La Nina start this summer and I have no idea if this will happen. We are do for a hot summer and though we have had hot periods during certain summers not full blown heat from start to finish.

1988 was a bad one. I was a kid and Mom and Dad were in the heat pouring concrete that summer putting in a patio and making the driveway more wide also. I remember them having to dampen down the concrete to keep it from setting up so fast. We had high 90s and low 100s even in June. It was a sweltering drought and summer for most of the Nation. We have not had a Nationwide summer time heat wave and drought of that magnitude for quite sometime so we're due.

...PRELIMINARY DAMAGE SURVEYS PLANNED FOLLOWING SEVERE
THUNDERSTORMS OVERNIGHT...

The National Weather Service office in Wilmington OH will conduct
damage surveys following severe thunderstorm activity that
resulted in multiple areas of damage from Dayton OH to Columbus OH
metro areas along the I-70 corridor.

A final assessment including results of the surveys are expected
to be completed and transmitted via a Public Information Statement
over the coming days.

No doubt severe weather was around last night but scattered in nature like we thought and almost impossible to forecast location until the storms pop. Locally it seems we got off easy but around Columbus not so much and sure some other places in the Ohio Valley as well. The cap was strong and really helped in keeping this from being a major outbreak. Hopefully no one was hurt but tornado's in the dark never good.

Agreed Tim.... Our forecast on this forum was good. I don't think the Enhanced risk verified that the SPC had out. Slight risk was just fine.

...TORNADO CONFIRMED IN JERSEY...LICKING COUNTY OHIO...

The National Weather Service in Wilmington, Ohio has confirmed
a tornado occurred in Jersey in Licking County, Ohio earlier this
morning. The survey continues this morning and may include
reported damage in Franklin County, Ohio near the Blacklick area.

Additional information, including tornado estimated maximum wind
speeds and track data, will be made available later this evening.
A final assessment, including results of the survey, are expected
to be completed and transmitted via a Public Information
Statement later this evening or tomorrow.

The storm survey information will also be available on our website
at http://weather.gov/iln.
