I-75 south in Ohio between Dayton and Cincy is still averaging 24mph. Ouch! Glad I’m not traveling that this morning

been getting flurries/ snow showers here since around 4 am , id say a heavy dusting is in order before things wind down later this afternoon

The more widespread nature of the snow showers and squalls is starting to shift east/southeast of the metro. Behind it things take on more of a streamer look to the north.

Good morning all and not much to speak of here. Why the advisory? Wouldn't a snow squall warning suffice in those isolated heavier bands? This is my complaint of the day. The impactful snow was isolated and not very widespread. This is now the second time it's happened. The boy who cried wolf. Better hope that the next issuance isn't the big one! No one will take it seriously.

This advisory I actually agree with. Definitely not much down your way but things have been tricky for a lot of folks on the Ohio side. Lots of accidents. Bad timing and lots of melting/re-freezing. Classic setup for travel troubles during a morning rush.

Travel was very difficult over a large enough area that a snow squall warning would not have adequately informed the public as to how bad the conditions were. I can attest to just how bad the roads were over a wide area of real estate.

Even with this recent cold spell we are still nearly 7 degrees above normal for the year. No where near the record of 12 degrees above normal in 1888. Coldest was in 1978 when we were 14 degrees below normal at this time of year.

Completely agree. The one Sat night/Sun morning? Now that was absolutely unnecessary lol! But this was a whole different setup with much colder temps leading to much higher impact. Advisories are more lenient when it comes to snowfall amounts and are more-so used to relay travel concerns versus meeting a stricter snow/ice accumulation criterion (I.e. winter storm warning).

Originally models had things shutting down soon but based on radar trends here and to the north, I think we’ll see passing flurries and snow showers through at least early afternoon. Longer east/northeast. Impacts now are obviously going to be minimal with the sun being up, but noteworthy to add to the forecast for today. With that and the thicker clouds, highs should be knocked down a bit.

I didn't. My coldest was -8 not cold enough. It works best in those rare -15 to -20 air masses that we just don't seem to get anymore. I mean we're talking pixie dust here.

Last time we got that cold was in the early 2010s when I was in college. We hit -22 iirc on campus.

Dec 83, Jan 85, Dec 89, Jan 94 all come into my mind. After that., it has gotten cold but not the real prolific stuff listed in those years. Dec 89 and Jan 94 really stand out to me.

Northern posters are having some issues this morning!

I can confirm the northern Montgomery county area is a sheet of ice. Very bad road conditions from the lake effect band that moved through the area. Only a dusting, but it turned into a sheet of ice.

My folks were out between 7 and 8 o'clock this morning as Mom got some routine lab work done at the hospital here in G'ville and they heard on WHIO radio where an intersection was also closed near I-70 in the Englewood area.

Glad my Mom's appt with a specialist at U.C. Health (main campus) is tomorrow morning and wasn't this morning!

Currently 28 here in G'ville and progged to top out at around 36.

For Tues or so of next week... OP GFS keeps the system suppressed while the CMC brings in some light rain / snow to the SE zones. Euro is much further NW actually bringing in measurable QPF to the region. Temps are marginal and I'd like to see it happen at night versus during the day on Tues but beggars can't be choosers. We are on the NW side of the precip shield too. One to keep an eye on with regards to track. Otherwise for snow lovers, I got nothin' Deformation zone is close to CVG, looks good for SE zones.

Trevor timing was perfect and with several days of below normal temps road temps fell. Matter of fact these kind of setups and we talked about this can really cause problems with little snow accumulation. The roads just get that thin layer of ice which is worse than having several inches of snow in terms of traction. Happening during the day this time of year no problems except visibility but overnight before the sun rises we saw what can happen after several cold days.

Precisely; a perfect setup for travel troubles before and during a morning commute unfortunately!

Unfortunately people are not very bright and don't put two and two together.

17 for my low this morning, big time hard freeze! That should slow spring down for a moment. Warmer air is coming though with 50 today and in the mid to upper 50s on Thurs. Then we get wet and drop back into the 30s this weekend but with dry conditions.
