Les. This reminds me of a storm in the 1990s not sure what year. Forecast was for 1-3 then 2-4 then 6-10 then 12+ ….. it kept snowing and the totals just kept going up and up. I think we ended up with 18 inches or so when we were only supposed to get 1-3
January 1996... posted on it numerous times. The upper low closed off over us and pumped in an abundance of Atlantic moisture. Hey... where have you heard that before? I kinda talked about that today if the EC Low can get absorbed into the trough? Now, the pattern is too progressive for the upper low to stall out like that. It cannot happen to that degree in this set up. Some 6-8" totals for some folks on our forum... it's doable per the data that we are seeing anyway. Can't argue with it.
I resided in Roanoke Rapids, NC at the time and worked at a Sleep Inn in maintenance in that same city which was right along I-95. The height of the blizzard was at night in that region and the lobby to nearly all the way to the continental breakfast nook was packed with '95ers. :thumbupleft: Fred G. Sanford would have had a heart attack and Frank Barone a holy c moment! Made some great tips during that blizzard "party"! 8-) And the hotel employees got some free lodging. :)

Just wanted to add a post. I think there's a 50% chance of a blizzard warning, maybe a bit higher.

How much snow actually fell in the Dayton area during that event? I remember my parents walking to the grocery (which they never did) and pulled us on a sled. To a kid, the snow seemed 6 feet tall piled on the sides of the road.
My memory: 26 inch snowpack on the ground before rain arrived which melted it down to 3 inches. Then, it changed to snow and 12.2 inches fell during the blizzard of 78

Just switched over to moderate snow here- temp down to 38 here. Noticeable uptick in the winds with the changeover.

Your memory, Les, is amazing!! That was probably my favorite snowstorm ever. Maybe the white Christmas blizzard 2022 will become my new favorite
Thank you Pete! I have numerous ones for ya. Lived here since Oct of 1980 was 4 years old. I remember the following wintry events:

Dec 1983 - Coldest Christmas Ever. This one will come close!
January 1985 cold wave - was in the 3rd grade and hardly went to school that month
Late March and Early April 1987 cut off low snows back to back
October 1989 - Earliest accum snow on record when 5-6" fell
December 1989 record cold and snow event -20s and 7" at CVG
Oct Pre Halloween storm 1993 - 6" fell here. I was in Bowling Green, KY in Marching Band and performed at the state level with pingers, frz rain and snow. Most were bitching I absolutely loved it! The pingers made our snare drums sound better. Was all snow up here.
January 1994 record snow and ice / cold wave -25!! Below zero highs! State of KY closed for a week! I was a senior in high school and loved every minute of it.
January 1996 - The big bust we just spoke of
Feb 1998 the big cut off low snow of 18" WOW!
March of 2008 blizz
January 2009 multiday snow and ice event
Dec of 2010 snowiest on record for CVG
Feb of 2010 - Super Clipper pattern - snowiest on record at CVG
Winter of 13-14 - 2nd snowiest on record at CVG
Feb of 2015 had a decent one.

Now this... Dec of 2022! I am probably missing something in there but you get the point. I love SNOW!!!!

Hello! I’m mike in Milan. I have been enjoying the conversation all week. I have been warning everyone all week about the storm. Most think I’m crazy because TV Mets have been saying snow totals of 1-3 inches.
