Re: January 2024 Weather Discussion
Still looking to see if any frz/rain will happen locally. What makes this trickier is the temp above the ground will be above 32 but the ground temp below and well below in some places. So if we get some frz/rain drizzle its not the kind of ice events where the trees and power lines are covered wit...

Re: January 2024 Weather Discussion
Concerning late Monday and early Tuesday. Still a concern on the fr/rain and models will probably start to see better signs of this as we get closer. Hard to move cold dense air from the surface and seen many of these systems that really cause problems. Even once you get air temps above 32 it can t...

Re: January 18-19th Accumulating Snow Threat
Picked up an additional inch overnight from snow showers. That’d put my total at 4” for the whole thing combined.

Re: January 18-19th Accumulating Snow Threat
What's good is that even with the clouds and cold temperatures, roads are recovering well in many areas. You can thank the calendar date/higher sun angle for that! Salt is working like a charm.

Re: January 18-19th Accumulating Snow Threat
While not perfect, this was the 12z GFS from yesterday. A major win for this model especially on placement. Note the drier zone around I-70. Again, not perfect, but the best performer IMO.

Re: January 18-19th Accumulating Snow Threat
So based on NWS reports and reports from you all, it looks like the following has occurred on avg, Individual results may vary as is usually the case. I-70 Crew: 1-2" Cincy Metro: 2-3" Southern tier of counties / SE Crew and our Eastern counties in general: 3-4" Something like that a...

Re: January 18-19th Accumulating Snow Threat
CVG now has 0.20" of QPF as of 9am. I am willing to bet I will have 3 to 3.5" myself when I get home. 2nd place will work for me! 3.0 measured in Burlington and 3.1 in Florence. I saw that! :) I assume in AV you are similar? Yeah a solid 3" snow here, maybe a bit more.

Re: January 18-19th Accumulating Snow Threat
Lots of 2-3"+ reports in Louisville which some of the models had as the screw zone. A nice treat for BG in WAVE Country.

@Les I see a LSR of 2.4" in Burlington from 7:00am so you will def hit 3"+.

Re: January 18-19th Accumulating Snow Threat
I doubt we see many 5" reports, so perhaps 2-4" would have been the better forecast range to go with. You always want the most people to hit the middle number when making a snowfall forecast. Any number in the range verifies, but that's usually what I shoot for.

Re: January 18-19th Accumulating Snow Threat
A bust for I-70 but my more aggressive forecast should work out nicely for the rest of us locally and east. Will do a final review when more totals are available.

Re: January 18-19th Accumulating Snow Threat
A nice win for the heavier models! 3" here at my place and still snowing. Most areas locally should hit 3"+.

Re: January 18-19th Accumulating Snow Threat
Frigid Sunday Morning Expected [Fri 1/19/24 7:30AM] Very cold morning lows are expected Sunday morning area wide. Calm winds, clearing skies, and snowpack on the ground will allow temperatures to take quite a plunge. This kind of cold can freeze pipes so take precautions before going to bed Saturday...

Re: January 18-19th Accumulating Snow Threat
ILN mentions the crappy flake production as well... .NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/... While falling steadily, snow has been hard to accumulate in some spots with small snow flakes. Other areas where there have been some better embedded bands the snowflakes have been larger and there has been m...

Re: January 18-19th Accumulating Snow Threat
Winter Storm Update [Fri 1/19/24 6:30AM] Bands of moderate to heavy snow have developed much further south than models had indicated. These bands will miss the Cincinnati metro to the south but will affect folks across the river in parts of Northern Kentucky. Lighter to occasionally steadier snows w...
