Re: We Haven't Had Enough...Let's Get Screwed Again! Feb 16-17, 2024
I really don't buy the 7-8 inch amounts the NWS is talking about, but I hope I'm wrong. If the deformation band goes bonkers in the next couple of hours then maybe. They have 3-6" for your location. There are two Winter Storm Warnings. That band that set up north of 70 earlier really put down ...

About 1.5 - 1.75 inches so far in Huber heights. I think 4-5 is attainable up here looking at the radar.
Edit: easily 2 inches now in Huber heights.

Hey Les, maybe a hammer time appearance? You know we can’t go an entire winter without seeing that certain rapper… lol Originally.... the hammer came out when we were under a winter storm warning and that other guy, when we had an ice storm warning. Being that this winter has been so bad, let me th...

Re: We Haven't Had Enough...Let's Get Screwed Again! Feb 16-17, 2024
There is a consensus in modeling that there will be an initial band of snow that breaks out along I-70 and north. This band should help the I-70 posters. The heavier band looks to hold off until later in the afternoon for folks south of I-70 into Kentucky. The I-70 crew should see a longer duration...

Re: We Haven't Had Enough...Let's Get Screwed Again! Feb 16-17, 2024
My forecast for this storm is that we are going to be in the bullseye at some point over the next couple of days. Within 24 hours this storm will turn into a Kentucky special with 3-5 inches from Louisville to Lexington. Cincinnati gets an inch or less. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! :tappi...

Re: How Can We Get Screwed Out of a Snow Storm Again? February 12-13, 2024
Hey Doug.... this has been a trend actually for the last several winters where models amp up a storm system too much so you always get the southward or SE shift a day or two out from game time. The overall storm itself is not going to be strong even for new England so we are seeing the same thing h...

Re: How Can We Get Screwed Out of a Snow Storm Again? February 12-13, 2024
The models this winter are really starting to get comical. Actually, they already have been. This is just another example. The latest Euro is driving the Northeast snow lovers bonkers. 12 hours ago New York City was on the southern edge of the heavier snowfall. Most models had anywhere from 2-6 inch...

Re: How Can We Get Screwed Out of a Snow Storm Again? February 12-13, 2024
Any chance at this point the models wiggle back north? Is the GFS on to something or did it miss out on these shifts south? There's always a chance. The last snowstorm we had kept shifting south the last few model runs, but when the event began snow accumulated even farther south than any model had...

Re: How Can We Get Screwed Out of a Snow Storm Again? February 12-13, 2024
I think the I-70 crew will be on the outside looking in on this one. I remember the 80's and 90's when it was rare that Kentucky got hit and Southwest and Central Ohio didn't. The norm was that Ohio always, year in year out, had more snowfall than Kentucky. Man, has that sure changed. Kentucky has b...

How can we get screwed out of a snowstorm again? Refer to the above post and also the brand new 18z NAM. These southward trends are getting concerning.

Re: How Can We Get Screwed Out of a Snow Storm Again? February 12-13, 2024
The 18z GFS is up to it's antics again. No way this happens. It's been consistent on placement, however. It does reflect the possibility of a really good deform band setting up somewhere across AV land. We will see if the short range models start to pick up on the deform band as we get closer.

Re: How Can We Get Screwed Out of a Snow Storm Again? February 12-13, 2024
The Euro looks pretty good. This definitely has potential in a narrow area. Les, you talk about threading the needle quite a bit. Here's one of those storms. Someone in AV land is going to be in the eye of the needle!

Re: February 2024 Weather Discussion
I don't know. The 14th-20th look pretty cold to me. Yes, Canada is warm at the moment, but Alaska is very cold. There is a lot of cold air on our side of the globe. It's just bottled up in Alaska at the moment. If we see this blocking develop, just like in January after no cold was to be found in Ca...

Re: February 2024 Weather Discussion
Trev its great to have different outlooks. I know Les and I once in awhile have different opinions on the certain storms or longer term outlooks and its funny how much of the time the weather is between those two outcomes. That may be the case here as well. Tim, I like you more bullish call on a ch...
