Nola , imo, as far as worst of the winds go , will dodge that bullet. My guess is they see cat 1 sustained winds with some higher gusts and tornadoes. Let's hope they did the levys right after Katrina

Are those flashing pockets of light in that NOAA Satellite image, lightning?

I've never seen that before amidst a hurricane image.

With Ida’s eye virtually certain to remain south of Grand Isle, the next spot to watch is Port Fourchon a bit farther SW.

The port’s website says it handles 10-15% of America’s domestic oil, meaning damage from a direct Cat 4 eyewall strike could have far-reaching implications.

Finally down to a TS this morning with winds of 60 mph. Entergy is the biggest energy supplier in LA. That's the customer I support. New Orleans is their HQ. They are reporting catastrophic damage to the transmission grid there. The entire parish is in the dark including the entire city of NO. Over 1 million people ion LA in the dark right now. This is only LA. This doesn't count MS, AL, and TN which those numbers, will also continue to grow.

It was amazing to see Ida maintain cat 4 strength literally 6 hours after landfall. The landscape in that area is mostly swamp so I'm sure that had a lot to do with it.

Wow! Read this twitter feed from the Univ of Tulane in NOLA. They are blaming the NHC for not evacuating and blaming those folks for a bad forecast. The call was spot on from like Day 3 out! This Univ. is really coming under fire now from Meteorologists, and they should. Whomever runs Tulane's social media dept ought to be fired and have their head examined.

Can't show you in the post but the Tweet starts with what you are seeing here. In Twitter click on Show Thread and you'll see the responses that I am talking about.

To make things worse is a heat advisory over the next few days in Southeast La. With no power it will be horrible down there.
