I asked this over at SEW but it went unanswered, i have the state outline with the counties as well as blank base maps but have no idea what software you all use to color everything in and put in the text for the amounts? a google search comes up empty.

It varies. Some use PowerPoint or PhotoShop, and I'm sure a few use MS Paint. I don't make them, so I can't give specifics on it, but the software part I can answer.

thanks, i don't have photoshop as you know it but i did just get the new photoshop lightroom 2 but that is a special version geared for maxing out you photos etc and making them look the best.

I go into GR3 and take off all the cities and radar and stuff, then take a screen cap. I edited out the little dot at the radar site. My 3D one was from GR2-AE and I actually took time to edit several images together to get out the altitude lines that come up when you go into 3D....

I created graphics line the banner/logo and stuff and use PowerPoint to just make some transparent color overlays for the amount contours.

I use GIMP 2, I figured it out by googling it and it took me through the whole process of how to make maps.

Hey everyone, thanks so much for the ideas/help.. i should be able to take a stab at my first map soon if i ever get time! btw: GR3 can be found at certain torrent sires! only problem is that its the last version and you can't update it to the newest version because you have to visit the GR3 owners forum and input your reg code etc. which you won't have if you downloaded it, but it does work, you just don't have all the newest and cool features/maps/icons/symbols etc.. but it does work and is accurate, it just looks old and is lower resolution etc..

What are torrent sires?

They are a file-sharing service. Kind of like the old Napster, Morpheus, and Kazaa peer-to-peer sites where music piracy got its big start. They use a newer technology, where you download parts of the file from various people, instead of the entire file from one person.
